I think it is very helpful to the players in certain situations. The kids shouldn't have to suffer because of a coaching change but this will also cause a lot of the power 5 schools to recruit successful low-mid major players. It should been situational or it will turn into free agency.

any chance it helps guys transfer "down". i realize the more likely chance will be losing star mid major guys to P5 teams.

I def think so! Just as guys doing really well will be tempted to leave mid to go to power 5, you will also have guys not getting enough PT for power 5 schools able to transfer and play right away for a mid major. Not having to sit a year changes the whole game when it comes to transfers for both mid and high major IMO.
