You know what, if he doesn't want to be here, let the man go. It's his life. He's been fantastic for us. At this point, he's put us in a position to land a great replacement who will continue what he's started. We owe the man so much. Let's give him the respect he deserves and wish him luck as he pursues other things he feels he needs to do. From the bottom of my heart, I thank him. If/when he goes, however, I have complete faith in Dr. Bradley to bring in a doozy. Stop wringing your hands. What will be will be. We'll be fine! :)

Anyone else think this two-part interview (call it a "sneak peak") from Todd, is a pre-cursor to finding out in Part II that he already knows what the answer is w/ Cal Poly? Not too sure why they would set it up that way if he was staying. do you?

Trust me, I will miss Ron if he leaves. He is clearly the strongest AD we have had in my 40+ years or damn close to it. Fortunately, much of the ground work has been laid, but once again, I will say, I have total confidence in Dr. Bradley and where he would take this search. Now if it was Benjy making the decision, I would be really PISSED~

If Ron does decide to leave....I would hope that the university....

would find a like-minded person...with his enthusism for the job....and his attitude for getting the job done......

after the dark years prior to ron's arrival....the indiana state athletics department can't afford to take a single step backwards....it must move forward....with a courageous and forward-thinking athletic director......

and the new athletic director, if there indeed is one, must have the same direct line of communication with the president...and no middle-men......

and in response to bally's comment.....ron is the second-best athletic director that i have seen in the time that i have been associated with the university, behind bob king.....and that is saying a lot and is high praise indeed.....

I'm glad you all have such faith. Having been around ISU for so long, and being naturally cynical, I don't have any faith whatsoever that they will replace RP with anyone even approaching his level. History says that the next AD will be an idiot. Bob King > Beanie Cooper. Larry Gallo > Andi Meyers. Yeah, I'm not excited...

I realize that we haven't had Dr. Bradley in the past, and that's the only thing that is giving me any hope at all. I think he can find someone great. So long as he stays away from the traditional ISU way of doing things. (i.e. screw the "search committee" format - do it yourself...)

But if history is my guide, well then, I'll just go have myself a Ballyhoo pizza 'cause the slide into the abyss will be quick and painful.

Geez, I'm really negative tonight, aren't I? :naughty:

My concern with finding a replacement, if it becomes necessary, is what person would be excited to complete another person's project? How do you find somebody that would be excited to see another person's vision to fruit?

If Ron leaves (which I pray doesn't happen but can accept it if it does) ISU has to go about it just like Cal Poly has....do the research, identify candidates which fit into the grand plan and move on them just like Cal Poly did on Ron. Work the phones, etc. Search committee is not the route to take with this, waiting for people to see it posted on www.higheredjobs.com or on the ISU website. ISU has to get out there and seek the right candidate by identifying the right candidates....

I am not as cynical on this topic because I have faith in Dr. Bradley in this situation. Now if you ask me about other top level hires at ISU that is a different story, but in this case Dr. Bradley knows that they have to find the right candidate if Ron leaves...and I truely beleive that. It also is going to depend on Ron himself, if he leaves. I would hope that Ron would have some "involvement" in finding his replacement.

We will just have to wait and see what happens. I will say this much...ISU needs strong leaders in upper level positions and the AD is perhaps right at the top just below the Provost. Ron has made up for other top level "leaders" for ISU in his time at ISU...if we don't find a strong leader with determination and a good sense of what is needed, ISU will be in world of hurt. Ron has set a tone at ISU that echos the tone of Dr Bradley.
