Golden says the seven-best players in the MVC are the following, and I doubt there's much of an argument here...

VanVleet
Baker
DJ Bal
Mock
Beane
Downtown Brown
Great Scott

Here's the reality of the situation folks...unless we finish in the top three of the MVC standings, it's incredibly possible we end up with two 2nd Team MVC'ers. I don't want that to be the case, I really want Devonte to get his due (1st Teamer)...but I just have a bad feeling Beane is gonna take the honor, when it comes to the MVC media making their votes.

Scott, unless he ups his scoring average to about 20 points a game....he's too young to beat out the Senior Beane.

I'm just trying to brace everyone for this impact come early March.

Carry on.

Not much to argue about. A couple things I find interesting is that 1.) we lost 6 games in non conference having 2 of the best 7 players in the conference and 2.) judging by the lack of attendance, nobody in T.H cares that we have 2 of the best players in the conference, which is sad. On point #2, history around here shows that if you lose that many games early on, TH fans will be slow to jump on the bandwagon.

I don't particularly agree. I think Scott is playing at a really high level across the board and if he keeps it up his numbers are going to be hard to look past. Golden mentions Colt Ryan in the article, Scott is right now on pace to make more 3 pointers in a season, more 3 pointers per game and at a higher percentage than at any point in Ryan's career. Just for comparison and legitimacy sake - he's shooting it really well!

Couple that with respectable rebound, steal and free throw numbers and you have a guy who has stacked the box score in many categories. He is going to be hard to overlook if he continues at his current clip - admittedly that will be very hard to do. I'm telling you, if he plays the way he has during the first half of conference play he can make a case to beat out anyone listed in that article completely removing his age/year from the discussion.

This isn't even a matter of opinion. What is a matter of opinion is if I think he can duplicate his first half? I think he is more than capable of it but I do not think he will be able to do so.

Lest we forget, that Devonte is ranked in the Top Ten in the Nation in Free Throw attempts and makes. Just in case you missed it...LOL [emoji1]

Agree....when you lose any chance of an "at large" NCAA bid in the pre-conference season, it takes the wind out of you.....I know even a few on this board were calling it a season before New Years Day.

Suppose KSmith wins the Defensive Player of the Year award, would that make him a 1st Team All Conference player ??? If so, we could possibly have 3 First Team All Conference selections.

There are 5 "automatic" first-teamers on the list that are not Sycamores. Can DB break into it? It will be tough but not impossible. I'm sure DB is more valuable than some of them but there are 5 very good offensive players on that list.

And Scott will have to wait his turn. Next year, he will have the same stature that the top ones on the list have this year. It's hard to beat out a senior. He can work on his all-around game like DB did and be ready for the next two years.

Is it me or, is Baker living off of last year's play. I've watched a lot of MVC games this year and it seems as if he hasn't elevated game. I may be wrong, if I am someone please correct me. [emoji111]

I agree sometimes he appears overrated, but he is a vg all-around player as a 2G that can also handle.
That's true, however, I've watched Beane, Timmer, VanVleet, Scott, and Brown all raise their level of play this year, especially in Conference. But Baker seems to be playing at the same level as he was in Non-Conference.

I'm not saying that he won't turn it up in the second half of Conference nor does he have to, due to the depth of the Shockers. IMHO, he's a second team all-valley player.

You know, you might be perfectly accurate. HOWEVER, their guards are "reputed" to be one of the best back courts in the country. Therefore, they might be automatically picked as a pair for all-conference.

I really believe Baker is among the Top Guards in the Conference..., but I have him on my 2nd Team. Ijs

This.

He is 1 or 1A on the best team in this conference several years running and one of the top 20 teams in the nation.

He is a first teamer and you can book it! Has he elevated his game?! I haven't watched him enough to say he has or hasn't. But I aint going to be the guy to make a case against him. I think he is elite, one of the best to ever play in this league.
