Small IN school (South Spencer -Class A?)...likely a big ?? re: competition. He's from a good athletic family - WVJC is an excellent 2 yr. program which current ISU 1Ber Dane Giesler came from after 1 season. Bob Snyder, current Legion Asst. Coach, was once HC @ Mt. Carmel.

Few frosh get much PT in Div I, as there's a big difference in pitching. As you can see by the WVJC program, if he carries his weight there, he'll have a ticket to almost anywhere in America. That's why I "selfishly" wished ISU had offered. Unfortunately, we're overburdened w/ OFers right now.

Btw, ISU's got a SS (Friis will be a Sr.) and 1B (Giesler a Sr,) coming in THIS Fall from WV. Good chance we'll see the Rockport kid next yr. (2018-19).

Watkins played his 1st yr. @ Central Michigan. Here's his '17 #'s @ WV:

Yea... South Spencer is a 2A school. Several baseball state championships... Several 1st round picks in majors... A few straight from high school.. schedule is laced with competitive baseball tourneys at mid season up north vs Indy area schools and all the biggest schools in southern indiana. They generally beat every big school. The Jasper game is usually one of the best though. Not sure what's up but they have a process. Several of their players go JUCO and then D1 for better development with more playing opportunities the first 2 years.... granted several D1 players have gone JUCO instead. Their home field is bigger than most major league fields.

Other than Josh Garrett, 20+ years ago; who are South Spencer's 1st Round MLB draftees?

Kevin Davis went in the 55th round and Blake Molnar in the 26th round; I'm likely forgetting some but only Garrett comes to mind.

And when you get a chance list the MLB stadiums that are smaller than Joe Hargis; both by field dimensions and capacity

I didn't think anyone would believe the several 1st round draft picks statement but I thought it would prompt quick research by some... yup 3 draft picks is correct....
The field (Not stadium), however is quite large. Approx 330 in left and right. Center is 427. Keep in mind that Don Mattingly hit a ball to right center over a 60 foot grandstand and that is said to be the farthest ball bit in Indiana, as the legend goes. Lol
Here is a link to MLB field sizes for comparison.

Thank you...

Thanks for the links -- good stuff; the dimensions seem a stretch; it's been decades since I've been to Hargis but in some satellites pics I've recently scanned, it seems like there's a discrepancy... maybe you're stretching the truth or engaging in some fake-news or the folks in rockport are fibbing.

Or, the likely truth, the satellite pics are accounting for the curvature of the earth OR the incorrect projection was used..

Course, as the earth is flat (thanks Kyrie!), the projections are irrelevant.

Friis is gone. He was drafted in the 21st round by Cleveland and is currently playing single A ball.

Looks like he's @ 2B now, which given his size, is a perfect fit. Looks like he's going thru the wooden bat "adaptive phase" carrying a .188 avg. Don't they say on avg, most hitters drop 100 pts going from college (polymer bats) to pro (wooden)?
