What debacle? He was a great QB who happened to get badly injured.
Go back & do your research during the "Sweet Lou" era...he didn't quit FB @ ISU because of "injury." Ask Schiff what he thinks about ISU QB Coach CHARLEY MOLNAR during the 1-25 dayz of the ISU "Wild West"...
Here's a good start for ya in the SycPride archives:

"Frankly Scarlet, I could give a damn?" Lou West, Charley Molnar......that milk has long since soured. We hnever had much luck with Jake's anyhow. Remember how Jake Odum decided to quit his senior year and become an NBA player. I don't either.
Must be down in Atlanta, likely working on a "Ted Turner bio." Always searching for TRUTH in life while riding the "Chief Quabachi" war horse. Hope that you've installed a "Jake Brake" on that horse...might need it.
I don't "give damn" either, Bally, but there's FICTION and there's FALSEHOOD, and the truth is usually found somewhere in between. In Schiff's case, he did suffer a collarbone injury but that wasn't what put an end to his career @ ISU.
Unless I hear it from a coach or Jake himself, it's all opinion, BS. When Shakir bailed, there were ALL sorts of rumors and innuendo. We'll likely never know his story and the same holds true for Schiff. He might have told a coach to go fuck himself. Who knows? As I said before, it's "spilled milk" and it is time to move on, period.
