I concur with Hooper's sentiments......Newty bleeds blue!!!!!
Funny, but during the Fall of '70, Newton's ATO's invited me to dinner one evening. As I was exiting the ATO House & headed toward my '62 Corvair parked along the 1200 block of S. 6th St., a group of OX's were standing on the front porch of their NEW house (the old house across the street had been destroyed by fire the prior Winter). They were yelling, "Hey, come inside and see OUR new house." Well, the rest is history, as the beauty of the old Chapman Root home was an immediate sell! I've also wondered what might've transpired had I accepted an ATO bid... Newton has always been one of the "Good guys."

"More importantly, he listens and remembers those interactions."

Man what a true quote.. !! I remember when I was IFC President being almost afraid of him, until I got to know him. He gave at least 5 personal tours for my friends and family since 92. I would call him and just say "hey Mr. Newton I got one that needs to be a Sycamore, they're gonna be a good one". He would always ask about them in some detail and the date of arrival. They would all commit on how it was "as if he knew me'. One of which is now a big player with the FBI crimes against children and was the lead agent on busting one of IU's most famous Alumni Jerrod Fogle.

Great guy, MR. ISU for sure, you might go several years without seeing him and he always remembers you as he had just seen you yesterday!

John has been a friend and fraternity brother for 50 years. I can't think of anyone who has done more for promoting ISU than John. While serving two terms on the alumni board i worked with John on many occasions. The article is spot on when talking about how John never met a stranger. Good wishes for a happy retirement.
