138 Pts in a game by Grinnell College G...

Grinnell College's Jack Taylor scored an NCAA-record 138 points Tuesday in a 179-104 win over Faith Baptist Bible.

The previous record was a 113-point performance from Rio Grande's Bevo Francis.

That record was set in 1954.

"It felt like anything I tossed up was going in," Taylor said afterward, which suggests he's not too concerned about the 56 shots he actually missed in this game. The 5-foot-10 sophomore from Wisconsin finished 52-of-108 from the field and 27-of-71 from 3-point range -- Yes, Taylor really did launch 71 3-pointers -- in 36 minutes. He has now scored 185 points in three games this season, meaning Taylor is averaging -- ready for this? -- 61.7 points per game for the Division-III school in Iowa known for its exciting style of play featuring a constant full-court press and really, really fast-paced attack.

Taylor scored his 100th point with a little more than eight minutes remaining while teammate Griffin Lentsch -- who scored a then-Division-III-record 89 points a mere 366 days ago -- finished with only seven. Meantime, David Larson scored 70 for Faith Baptist Bible. That's not bad. But it's not 138, either.

Thanks for the memories, Bankshot. Sad to say Bevo's amazing effort had unintended consequences, bad ones at my high school. I was playing guard on the frosh-soph team at the time. More than one guy turned very hungry after this event. On the varsity, a guy with the great name "Cheetah" Gurestra started shooting from every place on the court. Took several games before the coach got things back into proper perspective for Cheetah.

While reading the "comments" from the CBSSports.com Grinnell story, it seems that thru history, there've been a number of "Cheetah's" that have hit the hardwood courts. I would actually place PETE MARAVICH in this category, and since his ol' man was his coach @ LSU, he's part of the equation.

- Press Maravich coaching record.

I guess that sometimes, people gather more "entertainment value" from such showcasing. Back in the Ron Greene ISU "dark ages," I'm sure that the fan suffering could've been partly neutralized by the presence of a Maravich-type personna.

Besides a Maravich style player to neutralize the doldrums of that era, a great 2nd option would have been hiring out the CODE RED Dance Squad from Ball State!

ISU's "Song Girlz" had a few hotties back then...don't forget, that was the frizzed up hair era (Sheena E, etc)...the "just out of the rack/finger in a light socket"" look that took American fashion by storm.
