“We’re taking some leadership here to control our own destiny so that Tony Petitti and Greg Sankey don’t make that decision for us,” said one G5 athletic director.

Details of the plans under discussion vary. Some administrators like a smaller-scale idea of creating their own postseason to replace bowl games. Others believe the entire Group of 5 — especially the American, Conference USA and Sun Belt — should reorganize geographically under one banner with multiple divisions and share all revenue equally like a pro sports league.

Barn.... the horse has left but close the door if you wish

Their destiny is set; they SHOULD have been pushing for this this when Boise State beat Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl

Does thi$ AD not GET that Petitti and $kankey have been DRIVING their de$tiny for year$?

I understand the reasoning of the P5 trying to "box out" everyone from getting their slice of the pie. But I do think it's short sighted to not see the value in having the "underdog" participate in their P5 dick measuring contests.

I'd bet majority of neutral on-lookers love the MMs in college basketball come march-madness. Same could be said for a 12 team college football playoff. have you 8-10 P5s that make it every year (boring) but it's healthy for the sport to have a Tulane team that went undefeated or those Boise State teams that captivated the country.

The P5s, P2s do NOT care about the value of the underdog in any post-season scenario.

The P5s, P2s only want all of the $$ for themselves.

Please do not include common sense, logic or facts that the NCAA MBB Tourney has become the event it is BECAUSE of the underdog

There is a reason that the first weekend of the NCAAT is the most popular sports event in the nation..... it's the underdogs... it's the mid-majors beating majors... it's the old Single Class Basketball State Tournament that Indiana had for years... Seeing how you stack up. Building your program to compete and move up.

The bowl games are pretty pointless anymore. If it's not the CFP no one cares and most of the good players sit out during the bowl games these days anyways. Having a playoff for the G5 would be a good thing.

I'm hopeful that one day the G5 and FCS will simply become the same division after the power schools ultimately go their own way in football.

Bowl games are pretty pointless anymore...
Having a playoff for the G5 would be a good thing...

Huh?

If NO ONE is watching (and they aren't) the pointless bowl games between two G5 teams, how is a playoff of G5 teams going to draw eyeballs?

Maybe I should clarify. If they ran it the same way the FCS Playoffs are run (home sites until the championship game), then it would be a good thing. If they're going to have Toledo play New Mexico State in the first round in Tampa, Florida, then it would probably be poorly attended.

The FCS Playoffs draw few to no new, fresh eyes (non alumni, fans); I don't see your scenario bringing in new, fresh eyes.

How many people attend, watch, follow NM St Aggie football? Or basketball??

So, even IF the Rockets played the Aggies IN the Glass Bowl, is their top 2023 attendance (22,742) going to be topped by NM State's best home attendance (17,943)?

The Rockets played in front of 48,898 at U. Illinois' Memorial Stadium, very few of that 48.9K were there to see the Rockets, the Aggies had a crowd of 88,043 watch them at Jordan-Hare Stadium on The Plains of Auburn... maybe 40 of the 43 were there to watch the Aggies.

There is zero appreciable revenue in FCS football and a slight bit more in G5 football; any reformation of those two levels of football is simply a "rearranging of Titanic deck chairs," if those schools and fan bases aren't aware of that fact, they need to wake the **** up and accept the new norm.

It's not about bringing in fresh eyes, it's about giving those programs a championship to play for. A tournament like that will still bring in more fresh eyes then some random bowl game that no one cares about.
