Nearly 1000 now in the portal with more to come I am sure. Several of them have likely been told by their coach "you should enter the portal son". It works both ways.

I don't care about them entering the portal, moving on, etc.

What is a bit perturbing to me is announcing the announcement, announcing finalists, and going through the theatrics like their original high school recruitment. Pick a new school, make the announcement, and get to work for your new spot.

I agree but it not surprising -- aren't MOST of today "yoots" being taught to "build their brand NOW!" Isn't this just an extension of letting every player own their "image & likeness?"

The portal makes it easier for the fan base(s) to follow where kids are leaving, going; allows coaches to know which kds are in play

Most of these kids have been the center of attention since they were very young. We shouldn't expect them to change now. They have some control of their situation again so why not? The availability of social media has made everyone a celebrity in their own minds. Hopefully this transfer craze will benefit our new coach too.

Thankfully it's pretty sparse -- I'd say less than a quarter do it. That said, you're right about the brand. They are constantly bombarded by influences in their sphere of youth influence so it makes sense.

i cant believe they let players own themselves these days.

schools and ncaa have no one to blame but themselves -- I agree the new "system" will not end well but had the NCAA, CLC and each member school pushed BACK on companies versus taking their piece of the pie...

this likely would have never happened.

and the NCAA totally botched the messaging of how they allocate dollars to the universities
and the universities totally botched the messaging of how those dollars are spent
