Name That Band Survey
September 27 2012

We're missing something! When people ask about the marching band they refer to The Pride!, but when they refer to basketball band it is simply, "the basketball band." Really!?! We are one of the top basketball bands in the conference and we have no name, no identity, no brand!?!

Let's change that.

HOW?

We are holding a "name that band" contest to give the basketball band a new identity.

Follow this link (https://indstate.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_3aSngc4UN5B6yfr ) and choose the ONE (1) name that you think is the best choice for the ISU Basketball Band. The survey will be open until 11:55 PM on Sunday, Sept. 30.

Put your stamp on ISU and the basketball band. Help us Name That Band!

Possibilities are:
Tree Huggers
Big Blue Sound
Blue Thunder
Sixth Man Band
Sycamore Basketball Band
Wabash Cannonballers
Sycamore Barkin' Band
Sycamore Sound
Tree House Band

Sixth Man Band here to. Anyone remember the Association's song Six Man Band? That song was released while I was at ISU between 67-71. I say very few of you recall that?! Most of you weren't born at that time.

I'll echo what an alumni from the Sycamore Basketball Band recently voiced. The student section at ISU has had multiple names over the course of its existence...but for the last 20 years or more, the basketball band has been The Sycamore Basketball Band. It's classy, it immediately demonstrates who we are and what we do, and it has lasted the test of time. The Blue crew, sycamore psychos, the forest...great attempts at branding something, but they haven't lasted. I hope the people go with the tradition, and keep the name that we've be identified by for many years. As an alumni of the band myself, I certainly want the best for the ensemble both now and in the future.

Anything but pure class will deflate after a short time.

News to me! I thought it was called the Basketball Band, because they played at basketball games and it wasn't official or anything, just called it that because well...that was convenient, didn't realize it was an official title or anything? Huh...well I can't argue with the traditional argument...I don't personally think it really matters one way or the other...great to have the band there, they are amazing and great and bring excitement and pride to HC. But I will always and everyone else will always just call it "the band" anyway. So if you call it the basketball band or the 6th man band or the tree band or the sycamore experience----its still going to be "the band" to everyone not in the music department anyway.

Hey "Eleven" -- it would appear that you have some connection to the music folks and /or ISU band situation -- maybe you can help some of us out with some info. There have been many comments on Sycamore Pride (especially on the Football threads) about the size of the Marching Sycamores at football games. In the 1970's & 80's the Marching Sycamores had 2 - 3 times as many members as we see now. PLEASE NOTE -- this is NOT an attack on those in the band now -- they are doing a great job ! But the numbers are so, so low for a university our size. Out on the football field it has the appearance of a medium size high school band. Obviously many possible configurations are not possible with a band so small and the sound, while its good, is often not real loud.
Can you offer some insight into this situation -- what has caused the sharp decline in numbers ? Are there efforts to get the numbers back up into the 150 - 200 member range many of us remember ? Help us out with some info ...................

Sorry, I have no connection with the band at all.. Might ask LoudNProud if they were in the Marching Band... and ask them.

You guys make everything too difficult. It's as simple as this guys, Rock and Roll Timber Band

Game Over, but that wasn't an option now was it. Not sure why they don't consult me on everything...
