here is an excerpt from an online chat that was conducted earlier this afternoon on the des moines register website. moderating the chat was register sports columnist sean keeler and iowa hoops analyst (and former hawkeyes player) al lorenzen.

That online chat went from 12:30 to about 1:25 p.m....i have copied one portion of that chat that may be of interest to indiana state fans and observers.....

12:52 [Comment From dave (fan)]
jake kelly said it wants to play closer to home. he also said he hasn't had any contact with indiana state. that doesn't seem believable to me. what do you think?

12:52 Al: 2 words...Greg Lansing

12:53 [email protected]:
Dave: Kelly's dad, Bob, lives in Terre Haute, I believe. Everyone's kind of doing the math from here. Oh, yeah, and that Lansing guy who used to, um, be on Alford's staff. :)

a lot of iowa's fans are steaming about kelly's decision to transfer. not so much mad at jake, although some are, but mad at the situation at iowa.

i am a digger....lol...got more coming.....

i am now monitoring todd lickliter's press conference with the iowa media concerning the fact that four players are leaving the program, including jake kelly....more to come....

here you go...some quick excerpts from todd lickliter's friday press conference

here are some quickie excerpts from this afternoon's press conference in iowa city with hawkeyes coach todd lickliter. todd talked primarily about the fact that four players will be leaving the program. all i have are his general comments:

"Change happens in programs.

Four individuals [decided to] make a change.

[The departing players wanted a] more prominent or different role than we can guarantee.

[Lickliter] fully supports Jake Kelly.

[Jake is] one of better PGs in Big Ten, enjoyable to coach.

Sometimes change is good, honor[his] request [to transfer].

Kelly, Palmer, Peterson and Davis [are] gone.

Jake and his father have been up front and open. Don't blame him. Want him to stay."

In regards to Kelly's comments a couple of weeks ago about not transferring to now leaving, Lickliter said that "it was a personal situation" and pretty much left it at that.
