Back in the dayz...I see where my ol' Bedrock Gym has a couple pics posted, well after my dayz, when there was an upper deck with seating going around the court (since remodeled). My coaching office was under the opposite end shown. During my 1st yr. there in '79, Ricky Nelson and his "Stone Canyon Band" played there. It was his LAST concert prior to dying in a plane crash. It was also the same semester that John Hinckley shot Pres. Reagan.

This was great. Happy to see a Huntington County gym included, the old Warren Lighting Five played there until they consolidated with Huntington High for the 19666-67 school year.

I designed a book about 20 years ago named "Hoosier Temples" - might still be able to find it online somewhere- publisher was GBradley Publishing.

being an youngin', I would have loved to witness some of these gyms in action during the "glory days"....

The Muncie gym is in danger of being closed as it needs about $3 million in repairs and the school corp is 11.5 million in the hole. They are trying to raise the money locally through donations.

Sounds a lil' like the City of TH & Vigo County Schools, who would've been forced to place the new $9.8m Aquatic Center on referendum ballot had the City not provided the property for lease (99 yr. @ $1/yr.). I'm sure that this deal is being closely scrutinized by the current FBI investigation, as it disenfranchised Vigo citizen rights. Don't forget the value of 1st Bank's donated $200,000 digital scoreboard and the construction delay$ attached to ground water issues, which also had to add to final costs of this project.
