Kincanon needs to weigh the options. There's no money in the 11th round. His future in the minors could be either a short dead-end or even a long dead-end. Would he get chosen at a higher level after his senior year? Juniors chosen in the middle rounds are not necessarily chosen because they are expected to pan out. It's a gamble for the club and the player. We see this scenario so often.

Too bad that Kincanon never had the confidence of improving @ ISU during his FINAL season (thus improving his lot in next yrs. draft) ...but I understand where he's coming from.

Notice the #35 pick by the Sox:

35 (1047): Riley Crean, RHP, 6-3, 190, Bloomington North HS, Indiana

STATUS: Crean is committed to attend IMG Academy in Brandenton, Florida for a post-graduate year (he broke his commit to Indiana), similar to what 2014 top unsigned pick Brady Aiken did. So he is unlikely to sign. Also, Nick Hostetler talked about whether or not he'd be a re-draft later in a way that made clear he's not signing this cycle.

Son of former University of Indiana head basketball coach Tom Crean, Riley is a two-sport start who was committed to play for Indiana, ironically enough. Crean reportedly has a upper-80's fastball and advanced breaking stuff.

I agree...there was one issue described in the article just above re: Kincannon's "command of pitches." I do believe that he'd finished his ISU career IF he had any confidence that his "mechanics" would've appreciably improved his performance. It's the MENTAL part of pitching that has to be polished now. Easier said than done. There were multiple games this past season where he lost his "cool" in the middle innings when he didn't get a call near the "black" of the plate. Umpires catch this non-verbal behavior quickly, not wishing to be "staged." Most Minor League Umpires are one (1) month "MLB Baseball Umpiring School" grads," usually about the same age as the players. Kincanon's ability to bridle his "ego" will be key.
