Sorry -- I put this question on the BB thread .............

We might be coming from Indy rather than West Lafayette Saturday morning, what is the word on I - 70 ..........still working on it and congested (take US 40) or is it OK now ?

I have just checked 4 map services as well as the Highway department and ALL of them are showing NO construction near the airport where the big tie-ups have been. Even the webcam shots as far out as the IND39 exit look good. I think we are past the worst.

I drove to TH last Sunday from Indy and the going was not bad at all, a few spots where is was a bit slow. The return is another story. Stay on 40 going back untill you have gone at least 15 miles from TH. The traffic was backed up for miles east bound for construction. The closer to TH east bound the traffic is worse.

I drove from TH to Indy last Sunday (10/9) and tried I70 since it was a Sunday evening. The drive that normally takes 1 hour took another 45 min. and was frustrating. There were several places that bottlenecked and had standstill traffic to go down to one lane. I noticed some of that on the westbound side too. I will take 40 the next trip.
 
If there is an accident which seems to happen frequently on I-70 you can sit for hours at a time. US 40 is beautiful this time of the year if you have a choice.
 
I-70

I travel 70 from TH to IND and back everyday. If you are on the road early you should be fine as the volume of traffic is lighter. If you leave IND after 10am you are going to run into some delays. The weekends will be lighter but I would still allow for an hour and a half dive.:sycamores:
