The "Chicago Tribune" reported today that Illinois State University will invest $20 million to renovate Hancock STadium and increase the capacity from 9700 to 14,000. I was surprised that the current stadium only seats 9,700. I wonder if that is just the home side.

Place was a pit when I played there in '85 and it is still a pit. Don't even think this "facelift" would help. Like trying to dress up a rhino's ass.

:eek7:

Jeez, I'd hate to see what you'd have to say about Memorial Stadium. Illinois State's visitors stands are probably approaching what Indiana State's north stands were before they were torn down. The rendering they show on their web site looks more like a new stadium than a rennovation. By the way Cap'n, can you get them to turn the volume down a few notches on the sound system in the dome--I think I lost a few % in my hearing a couple of years ago there.

I used to not like Memorial Stadium until I went there in '08 (I think) for that rainy-ass, cold game agaisnt UNI. I actually enjoyed it and thought it wasn't that bad. Locker room area looks a little high school-ish, but I thought the University did what they could do to present a decent gameday atmosphere. Memorial looks like Cowboys Stadium compared to Hancock.

They re-did the locker rooms. The worst locker room scenario though has to be WIU, where the players from both teams have to walk out of the stadium, across a parking lot and out of sight behind some dorms. It's funny to watch. You know half time is about over when you see them making the long walk back.

Sounds like TH North and South.
MIC opponents from Indy make fun of TH for that exact thing.. (among other things as far as FB goes.)

Westen's home locker room is actually really nice (bigger and nicer than our new one), although a little hike (although not past some dorms...they are off a sidewalk adjacent to their rec center; the visiting team has another block to walk from there). The visitors locker room is about 3 blocks from the stadium in some lousy visiting locker room in their basketball arena.

It has to be three blocks or more. That's a long walk to get from the field to some lockerrooms. They pretty much disappear from view before you see them enter the lockerrooms. It would be like the Sycamores walking out of the stadium and over to Rural King.
