The JSW Level
the former Indiana State assistant who recruited him hard. That would be former wide receivers coach Troy Walters, who is now the wide receivers coach at Texas A&M.

Troy spent a lot of time at Warren Central and finally got his man. And for that, I think everybody is very grateful.

Lessons learned...when you recruit kids from high level winning programs it makes a difference. These kids are used to working hard and competing at a high level and understand what it takes to win. Even if the kids don't play immediately, they help during off season by setting good examples in how they lift and train, it becomes contagious. I'm not suggesting kids from less successful programs shouldn't be recruited cause we have some great ones! But it pays to put some priority on kids from strong HS programs.

Preach it. I know we've got more opportunity to go out of state now, but I hope we really dig into some of the Indiana powerhouse programs more. I can understand the allure of sending kids to FBS schools, but I think a lot of kids that go at sit at IU, Purdue, et al but they may just be better fits at a place like Indiana State.

Jason, I agree.....

I've been saying that for years about kids who get pushed by fans and coaches to go to a higher level program when they should really go to a medium or smaller program where they can get a better chance to play and contribute quicker.

Often times, we get some of those kids back on the rebound after they go to a so-called major program and wind up sitting on the bench. And it's not like Trent and his coaching staff haven't been or don't recruit the best high school programs in the state. They do. Trent has great ties to Warren Central and other central Indiana big-time high school programs from his days at Notre Dame, Stanford and Washington. Indiana was Trent's recruiting base when he was an assistant at those schools.

It's like the media thing. Indiana State can go to the top high school programs in the state, hang out, live there, and recruit players. But if the players keep hearing from fans or their high school coaches that they're "better" (talent-wise) and should go to a bigger school, often times kids listen to that.

And no offense to the local schools, lord knows I've been highly pleased with guys like Millington, Lough to just to name two, but let's not feel an obligation to bring in a handful of TH players every year. Signing a THN or THS QB just to redshirt them and watch them leave is a waste of everyone's time.

I agree...I know there are a host of players that contributed to the program throughout the years from th but few are QB's....that is a tough spot that takes special talent at this level....I would like to see a lb or dlineman or olineman that are local come in more that I would QB's...and if you bring a qb in make sure has some speed...oleary has speed and height to switch to reciever...but there have been kids who can't make switches that we brought in at qb...there are a couple kids at north, south and brazil that definately should have come in with seliger's class that I coached myself that would have contributed....dont' know if lou west was the problem or their grades but there have been a lot of talent that didn't make it here that should have and everyone would have been pleased....I think we do a good job now... I really like the kids that are local that are on the team...buske...mardis...gabbard and others...these guys will contribute...
