for those who missed it Saturday morning, it was great!!!!.....During his acceptance speech Bill, in a very gracious way, turned to Dr. Bradley and basically told him how much the athletic department means to the university....and that he has seen great growth in the athletic department in the last couple of years....he was referring to the work done by Ron Prettyman since he has been the school's athletic director....he talked about some of the coaches....and gave a positive nod to the work being done by Trent Miles with the football program.....he talked glowingly about John McNichols and John Gartland and the cross country/track programs....and he talked about what the Indiana State athletic program means to the school's former athletes....

it was a very good speech...it wasn't over the top in any way....but he quietly -- but steadfastly -- told Dr. Bradley to keep up the good work with the reemergence of the school's athletic department.....

there were also good speeches by the other inductees....

such as Bob Barker (men's basketball), David Wright (football), Angie Bruecker Martin (track) and Debbie Styx Peters (softball). John Sherman and Debbie Nelson did a great job of setting everything up.

I am glad that Indiana State takes the trouble to honor its past and that the honorees talk not just their past glory but the future of the university. That's good for all.
And it was entertaining. I had to laugh when, after listening to a long, long list of his accomplishments starting as an athlete in 1946 (think of it) and as a high school coach for 13 years and as a Sycamore coach, coach Malloy walked to the podium and said "No wonder I'm so tired."

That is funny!

I had Malloy's ISU "Officiating of Basketball" class in '70...he was both a HS & collegiate referee. He was one of the Boyz that sparred on the Arena Badminton Courts with cohorts Duane Klueh, TJ Loughrey, Jim Wittenauer and Jim Rendel. You've never seen SERIOUS badminton until you watched them!

Many of you will recall Malloy's outdoor running routine down Ohio St. to Deming Park & back. The guy could kick it!
