Cutts throwing another nice game! Sycs up 3-0 in the bottom of 3rd:

Hannah's plays to the hometowners by bringing in THN's Gauer, who's rocked for a GRANDSLAM in the 9th...now 12-5. Parisi surrenders a HR to the subsequent batter...12-6. No LL arms available? LOL

Sycamores win! Great bounce back after having the weekend off and having to stew on last weeks lost to IU. It’s good to have a large lead to run the young arms out of the bullpen and have the ability to let something’s play out. Gauer has the potential to do really good things in his career. His baseball career is just blossoming and unfortunately you have nights where you aren’t as sharp as you want to be.

He should've went JC, where he'd picked up some meaningful innings. He's simply "out of his league" at this stage in his career.

What is bothersome is this is the 2nd game in a row (IU - Hurth; IL -Gauer) where Hannah's brings in a 9th inning reliever, who walks two (2) batters then surrender's a HR. Am I missing a "teaching moment" here?

"Out of his league" is a terrible statement and not close to being true. I've seen freshman come in and be out of there league. Let me tell you, this kid is not. Not often you find a kid that picks up the ball late in his high school career that has the potential this kid has, plus he is in our own backyard. He is a freshman and if he goes the JC route he could end up other places. This staff knows player development and I can tell you he is getting meaningful reps in this program, it doesn't alway come from in game experience. Out of the six games he has pitched in, he has only given up runs in two of the games. Mid-week games are played to win but also get arms in the game. Last night was no harm/no foul with an 11-1 lead.

It's called baseball and you can't sit on the ball and run the clock out. Everyone wants to close a game out in the 9th and last night we did, it wasn't the prettiest but there was W was put in the W column. Move pass IU because it's over and nothing can be done about it now. This team will show up to practice to day and move pass last night and start preparing for this weekend.

OMG, THANK YOU!

And you think that "no harm/no foul" (wrong sport btw) 9th inning 10-run led is an optimum developmental situation for a late bloomer 1st yr. collegiate pitcher w/ 7 total season innings under his belt? LOL

Btw, how many players over the yrs. has ISU had from JC's during Hannah's era? Fear of "losing a player" because he develops properly is part of the game, as is TRUST. This concept has been around for years in college baseball.

It's no harm/no foul when you win the freaking game. A 10 run lead in the 9th is a perfect time to run the freshman out there. It wasn't a bases loaded, 0 outs, tied game situation. Mid-week games are where the guys middle on down in the rotation/bullpen get there time to prove show what they are capable of.

Hannahs and the staff know how to recruit the JUCO ranks and I'm all for the JUCO ranks, considering I played at a JUCO, but when you have a kid in your back yard that you can develop in house you get him.

The story should be, "The Sycamores Ran Up the Score Early and Picked Up a Win Over Illinois". Sure, you like to win 11-1 but a win is a win and I'm sure the late inning runs where discussed in house. I'm moving on and hope the Sycamores are ready for a hot Evansville team.

Oh, by the way the wheels only fall off the wagon if you lose. They might of rattled a little last night, but they didn't fall off.

LOL - They "fell off" when Gauer was in the game! You must've ignored his #'s last night.

Btw, check the paragraph out in today's Trib-Star where Hannah's mention's his "immaturity." This is resolved thru PITCHING EXPERIENCE, not in the bullpen! This is BOTH mental & physical.

Former MLB pitcher Steve Ellis posted these short comments re: collegiate pitching:

College baseball does not give out charity innings or have time to develop newbies. If this is a passion that you wish to pursue, focus on building your arm strength and learning to use you whole body to get the most behind your throws. This comes from throwing regularly.

As far as private lessons go, you can watch enough videos of pitching mechanics in super slow motion on YouTube.

When you have a grasp for that, focus on throwing 2 pitches (a fastball and breaking ball/offspeed) to each side of the plate, down in the strike zone.

At all levels, the majority of the balls hit hard are on pitches left up and over the plate.

Focus on attacking the areas down and on the corners with 2 pitches.

i read the article and knew Coach Hannahs would address it and he will address it appropriately, but at the end of the day Gauer will be better from it and the Sycamores won. It’s a good teaching moment for the freshman and it didn’t cost them the win.

You’re blowing the 9th inning out of portion. In this game they played good enough baseball through 8 innings to survive. I’m all about putting 9 innings together but shoot, last night we walked away with the win and a teaching moment and as mentioned in the paper, hopefully a maturing moment.

In future games we might not be in that position, but in the 9th both teams pulled there starters and giving younger or depth guys get experience. That’s what you do when you have a 10 run lead in the 9th.

Player development exists in college baseball and it’s used in game when you have a large lead or getting blown out.

But Bank thinks Lane Miller is good. Gauer’s also coming off Tommy John surgery and hasn’t done bad in the other games he’s been in. If Hannah’s didn’t think he was ready, he wouldn’t put him in the game.

As a reference point, another recent ISU pitcher's stats in brief

2017...era = 0.0. ...innings pitched = 1.0
2018..era =4.15....innings =30.1
2019...era...6.42...innings...33
2020...era..6.23...innings =8
2021...era...2.08?. innings= 99

Who saw that coming?
