Jason:

Another classic example of Coach Miles, his staff and the players shouldering the anti-football demon that was Andi Meyer.

Fair article...... At least people are starting to acknowledge where the problem started and how long it has taken us to get to this point.

Can you imagine your recruiting budget being cut from$50,000 to $13,000...... Seriously, Warren Central High Schools recruiting budget is higher than $13,000....

I knew that some of the things they did to Coach Raetz and the Football team was bad, but my goodness. a 74% reduction in the recruiting budget......

Good article... Something, even though simple, struck me pretty hard:

Troy Walters, a former NFL receiver, said "When I was with the Colts, coach [Tony] Dungy always said 'Keep pounding the rock. Keep pounding the rock. You never know when it's going to break.' "

Let's keep pounding... Better times are ahead

It's good that people are finally seeing behind the scenes....

at what happened at ISU over the years. Just look at the mess that both Trent and Ron Prettyman have been forced to clean up in terms of the football program.

As Trent says, and as been repeated here often, the program didnt get this way in a year and a half and its going to take a lot longer than a year and a half to get it turned around.

The problems have always been there. Now, finally, people seem to care about it. As much as former ISU athletic department and university administrators are to blame, and they are, it was made even worse by the general malaise of the public in general.

Nobody took the time to look behind the curtain. Had they done that back in the 1990s, maybe we wouldn't be where we are now.

I think you also have to look at the lack of alumni support here. It is all to often the case that alumni can help tremendously and the fact remains that, generally speaking, alumni are not engaged. Sure, there are donors and supporters, but there are not enough and there are far to few "little" things out there that need attention from alumni. Just my 2 cents. Alumni are a component to this too. And I am not talking about former athletes either. I am talking about alumni that won't even admit they went to ISU, or never attend any sporting, alumni, social or otherwise ISU event.

This area has improved thanks in large part to the internet (site like this, facebook, etc.) but it all starts there on campus as an undergrad and then continues after you leave.

We will continue to see improvement, of that I am sure. The engagment of alumni is increasing, the marketing of ISU is increasing, athletics generally are getting better and campus is becoming more and more beautiful and vibrant, things are improving in virtually every aspect of ISU, even in this economy. Of course it will take time, but I know that as long as I can still attend or support my alma mater I will do so, whether through donations of money or time.

its getting better....

in terms of alumni.....still not what it can be...but it is getting better....and I credit Ron Prettyman for that...and his staff.....they are trying.....they care......and that's all you can ask....

of course, our football alumni association group has helped a lot too.....

Blame game...

Before we throw Andi Meyers under the bus, let's remember that AD's are under strict orders of the President of the university and the board of trustees. I think instead of blaming her, perhaps everyone should maybe take a look up another rung of the ladder. Andi didn't make these budget cuts of her own volition.

And wasn't Raetz an associate AD in the athletic department for a number of years?

Great Point! However, don't mention Raetz as an associate AD as part of the problem.

It did start from the VERY top down. But it didn't stop until it got to the football program itself. We have received ZERO support from the University President on down for a long time........

However, things have changed. President Bradley might actually be the biggest Indiana State Football fan. Ron Prettyman came to ISU because he wanted to go to a school that fielded a football team.

Just to clarify, I deleted my post because I violated my cardinal rule of calling someone out by name, although in this case it's justified...
