The next 4 years of NCAA Cross Country championship meets (and regionals) were announced today.

As many of you know, ISU has hosted most of the recent NCAA CC championship meets.

In the 4 year rotation just announced ISU was selected to host the 2019 NCAA meet. The 2018 meet will be at Wisconsin, which will be a nightmare given there is no parking anywhere near the course. The 2020 meet is at Oklahoma State, so I assume they have a new course, the 2021 meet is at Florida State of all places, I'm sure it won't be too hot for that meet, yeah, right.

ISU will host the Great Lakes regional meet in 2017, 2018, and 2020. Evansville hosts the Great Lakes regional meet in 2021.

There's really no reason it should not always be at ISU, kind of like Omaha hosting NCAA baseball

You have 3 options as a fan of college athletics given the current state.

1. Can't beat them join them. Become a fan, coach, player etc. of a high major school.

2. Quit caring all together and fill your time/money doing other things.

3. Continue to fight the good fight.

Things like this will only continue to happen and only get worse. For the amount of money and resources they have put into that facility over the years it's an absolute joke that the NCAA not award us more Championships than this. Those guys have talked about adding sprinkler system throughout the entire course among other amenities considered to improve the facility. This past season they added and amazing new awards area and they improved the viewing along the home stretch for fans to be able to stand deeper and behind the crowd and still see the action...

You're right it is a shame - but it's not friggin surprising. This crap keeps going on and it's only getting worse. No one cares about Indiana State and that's just the bottom line. I will always have a chip on my shoulder because of it. Bleep IU, PU, ND and all of the other schools across the country. Ya all that like to cheer for the MVC in March because well they are in the MVC - you ought to stop caring about those schools and look out for #1 and only #1. That's what the rest of the world is doing while our fans look for another team to cheer for in March because the Sycamores didn't get the job done.

Rant over.

Sadly, start with the fact the College World Series draws 300,000+ fans to a metro area of ~916,000...

I've no idea what the national CC meet draws but is it 300,000+ plus?

I'd argue that the BIGGEST reason, ISU has hosted the national meet is that the NCAA is now in Indianapolis and NOT in Kansas City.

Did State EVER host the national CC meet prior to the NCAA moving? I believe the answer is no.

I agree with you, we should host far, FAR more often than we do... but will we host more? I think it'll be the 1 every 3-4 years as it's become.

Well let me help you with this because clearly you just LEAPED to conclusions...

LaVern Gibson was dedicated in 1997. It didn't host its first National Championship until 2002.

Coincidently the NCAA moved to Indianapolis in 1997.

In short the NCAA moving to Indianapolis might have given us some leverage but the two events were not connected. Universities put in bids to host the NCAA Cross Country Nationals. I don't believe that they allow for bids in Track & Field (Eugene, OR) and Baseball (Omaha, NB) not sure about the other sports. Indiana State has hosted as often as we have because no other facility in the country existed like LaVern Gibson. Most other XC courses were golf courses and they lacked parking and other amenities that LaVern was able to offer since it was designed specifically for Cross Country. Since then - other Universities have made similar investments in the sport to try and compete with Indiana State/LaVern Gibson.

If this were Indiana University and the course was in Bloomington, IN I'd venture to guess that it would be deemed a permanent location... No one in the United States has the facility we have at LaVern and it's not really even close. Given that - clearly the decision comes down to other factors beyond what the course has to offer.
