The Nicks Level
I often visit the Statesman for information to share here. It's 5:34pm pm Sunday, Sept 25. What is the very first screen I see? Sycamores fall short at Golden Gophers!--that's over 2 weeks ago. We have put 2 in the vin column since then--one over a top 10 team. What is the reason/excuse? I can't think of any acceptable answer. Come on ISU! You are better than that!

This kind of stuff drives me crazy. I just sent a letter to them at [email protected].....

To Whom It May Concern-

I recently visited the Indiana Statesman website (www.indianastatesman.com) and was surprised to see that one of the lead articles was about ISU football's loss at Minnesota (the article was post on 9/12).

That game took place two weeks ago and since then, the Sycamores have put together back to back wins (including a win vs. #9 Illinois State) and have received 3 MVFC Players of the Week awards.

Leading into Homecoming week, it would be nice to find a timely article about the upcoming coming game, the recent success of the team (as there’s an outside chance that they crack the Top 25 this week, http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/football/fcs/stats-fcs-top-25) and not about a loss that occurred 2+ weeks ago.

Thank you.

The "official" voice in the athletic department isn't much better -- their game notes routinely have factual errors

they do little to no research when presented with errors

the statesman wasn't great when I was there in the 80s

Homecoming is going to be the bee's knees this year! The cat's meow!

Guys -- I love ISU -- try to support as best I can -- make journeys to TH as often as I can -- we do some things well .............BUT

We is who we is -- troubles in certain areas just continue and continue. Most years since I was there in the early 70's the Statesman has been average at best and often terrible. Most of us know there are many other areas at ISU that the same thing could be said about (many of these have been discussed on this site many, many times.)

I believe this pretty well sums up the feeling of most of us. Frustration someing sets in and we turn here to vent. AND yes, we also come here to congratulate and applaud too.

The loss at Minnesotan is still there. But it has been joined by a story on the ISU-R game too. It seems SEMO has been overlooked. Coverage is improving!

Picked up a copy of the Homecoming edition of the Statesman Saturday while eating lunch at the deserted Union Saturday -- pretty average at best.

Sidenote ? Does anyone know why we have gone away from the large game programs (30 pages +) for both FB and BB. Not much info in the pamphlet they're selling now and of course no advertising $$$.

Production cost is what Tom James said when I raised the question when they first started doing them.

I've not bought a "program" since.

Geeezz ... you'd think a large program would be a money-maker ! So much advertising and they usually charge $5 for it ! Plus you are engaging with the business community in Terre Haute. Guess that's why I did poorly in Econ classes ....................
