Damn, TJ.....you'd better be there. Not even 5 miles from where you live. It's always a blast. Everyone from RP to Dr. B and hopefully Coach L. should be there. If you play anywhere near where I am on the course, I would wear a helmut, however~

if that's permitted.....
Absolutely. You can walk around and harass the golfers. The bar is open and dinner alone is available if you want. If I wasn't struggling so much to pay for the golf, i'd buy you a beer but i'd love to toast one with you TJ. Last year we had around 100 or so. It's a fun day, believe me. Lot's to celebrate this year with a new hoops coach and a new spirit out at Memorial Stadium~

I had hoped that Trent was coming but Chris told me to not hold my breath. Dennis came almost every time as HC but it has been a long time since a head coach has been there. Kind of sad if you ask me because these are the alums that they need to encourage to come down for games. I never met Lou and still haven't met Trent either. Now Dennis....? There's a different story.

i know that trent doesnt golf.....

because he doesnt golf in the isu football event each spring...but he does drive around to the different holes and talks to everybody....and he is around for the pre-golf luncheon......and the post-golf get-together at the bally.....

Isn't it in the Head Coach's contract...

to appear and speak at these events??

Was thinking that the schedule for these summer golf events was built around the schedules of the MBB, WBB, Football and Baseball coaches -- at least the MBB and Football coaches...

The problem with alumni events is they have TOO MANY golf outings. Looking at June until August, I see 12 golf outings. I'd hope they weren't contractually obligated to have to attend each and every one.

I see both sides of the situation. One, it is nice to have a local golf outing...it is really nice. But with 12 across the state it is difficult to get decent attendance by staff, coaches, etc. And, though I would like to see Trent or Lansing at any golf outing...I would be happier to hear that they are out recruiting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rather than sitting on a golf course...however that then brings up the question...could they be recruiting by coming to the golf outing?

It is a very interesting question?

No, I think the coaches rotate between them...for instance Trent or Greg aren't ALWAYS going to do the Indy event... wouldn't that p*** off the $$$ donors in The Fort or E'ville or Da Region??

Maybe they ALWAYS have to do the event in The Haute (but that seems like a 'no-brainer')

I believe it's more of a 'mix with the boosters' than recruiting tool (just as important)

If State had some 'rock star' faculty like Harvard, Georgetown, UCLA, etc -- I'm sure some of those faculty members would be at recruiting events/fundraisers as well

Oh...I get that. What I am saying is that by developing relationships with alumni it can lead to good recruiting. For example, an alumnus that is a teacher at Ben Davis High School goes to the Indy Golf Outing. He meets coach Miles at that golf outing. 2 years later that teacher has a student in his class that is a great football player. That teacher talks to the student continually about school, advising, etc. The students asks where that teacher went to school. The teacher starts a dialog about ISU...the student becomes interested. The teacher sets up a campus visit because he now feels that he knows the coach....bang the student comes to ISU.

Hey it could happen. But I have to agree with Boda...too many golf outings occuring and/or too many happening at the sake of other events that might get better attendance and potentially raise more money for scholarships.

I believe that each of these golf outings double as fundraiser/scholarship event.

What other events does the Alumni group in Indy host?

What about those that don't or can not play golf? Just throw them aside and forget about them? How about a ISU day at the Indians, Pacers or the Zoo just for starters.

that is the problem...not much other than a happy hour here or there.
You'd figure I would jump in eventually. In the past 20 years, ISU Indy alumni chapter has hosted many events. Annually in the past, well-attended events at Symphony on the Prairie, Indian's games every year, hosting pre-game or post game parties when the Trees come to Indy (IUPUI and Butler before that, including 180 attending a Moe and Johnny's pre-game), The annual coach's luncheon downtown, and obviously the Golf Outing every year. Those events have slowed down a bit in the past year or so but will be back. Sack, you made it sound like we don't do ANYTHING! Yes, we occasionally have happy hours too!
