Sycamores' triple treat
Indiana State became the first school to win a men's Triple Crown in the Missouri Valley Conference -- cross country, indoor and outdoor track -- by claiming the outdoor title Sunday at Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The Sycamores, who were projected to finish third, did not have a first place finisher on the final day but persevered to edge Southern Illinois 168-167.
ISU junior Major Clay won a third straight title in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 83/4 inches in the rain. Dustin Betz and Michael Disher, the defending champion, finished 1-2 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9 minutes, 14.18 seconds and 9:15.66, respectively. Disher (Southport) was third in the 5,000 in 14:53.19.
Other area athletes in the top three for ISU were Daryl Truitt (Lawrence North), second in the 100 in 10.53, and Andrew Stull (Carmel), third in the 200 in 21.19.
