As the conference season grows near, there's a couple of injuries of note. The most serious is reportedly to senior center fielder Levi Ferguson who has a partial rotator cuff tear on what we assume is on his throwing shoulder. As he has red shirted once already, that is not an option according to Coach Heller. He will attempt to see if he can just play through the pain as there is no time for surgery. You'll remember that it was early in the year last year that Ferguson was out with a torn hamstring which sidelined him for about a month.

The other injury is to sophomore catcher Jeremy Lucas who has been DHing for a few games as he has tenderness in his throwing elbow. Heller says he may have to be sidelined altogether if his elbow doesn't improve soon.

Here's the story from the TribStar that has that information embedded within it:

Doesn't look good for Ferguson...a CF needs all the throwing motion he can garner, and an astute opponet can easily take advantage of a "weak arm."

I'd take it easy w/ Lucas for awhile and keep the trainer busy on him. Abstinence is the only cure for "tennis elbow," and like Lucas, the opposition can easily ID a disability and cue off of it. Not good w/ men on base...

Sidelining Lucas will be a big loss for the team, because this Patrick Foster is not producing. Who in the hell recuited him and where did he come from? He's terrible. Maybe good for highschool ball not Division 1 baseball. Seems like there is not much of a backup catcher. Hope Lucas heals quickly.
For Heller to say for ferguson to play through the pain, it could injure him more and his days of playing ball will definately be done. What a moron to even mention that as an option. Maybe thats why the young men are getting these extensive injuries.

Why would they even recruit him he's terrible. Last year Lucas was the backup that shared time because he was good. This kid is terrible, why would Indiana State baseball recruit him. There are other Catchers out there who are alot better then he his, he needs to go play summer ball and leave Division 1. He is going to hurt the team. Bad Move!:sycamores:

caddytree32: I'm sure the coaching staff is working hard with Richart and Foster to make adjustments. It may be that neither of the back-up catchers can do as well as Lucas. The main thing is to rest that elbow...do an MRI to make sure there is not something else wrong...and to hope he is ready for the conference season. This is a very common problem early in the year for catchers and pitchers. Bankshot is right in saying that rest and physical therapy is the best solution right now.

When you recruit, you are supposed to recruit people that can step up and do as well as the head, in this case catcher. X is terrible, I havent heard anything on this other guy. How is he, Is he as strong?
I never said that I disagree with the rest and rehab. but the comment Heller made on ferguson playing through pain is retarded. Lets just keep damaging it so the boy cant play ball anymore.

It is only common with teams that do not condition their team properly and make comments that they will play through their pain. I'm sure Lucas's parents are keeping an eye on him, making sure he is being seen by the specialist of their choice since they are local.

Caddytree

Did you attempt to walk-on at ISU and get cut? Your remarks are very negative toward the back up catcher as well as Coach Heller. Who could ever anticipate losing your starting CF and getting limited starts by the starting C in the first 10 games of the year? Cheer the boys on!

Hey caddytree32 or should I say crabbycathy32? How dare you bad mouth one of the players like that! Maybe you should go out and recruit for ISU yourself. If the coaching staff isnt that good, why did last years team win more games than any team in the "meggs era?" Don't get me wrong, Meggs is a very good coach on and off the field but you have no right to bad mouth Coach Heller or his coaching staff on the players that they recruit or how they go about training their athletes! Just sit on your soap box from the stands and speak to deaf ears because everyone knows you don't know anything your talking about! ROLL TREE!:sycamores:

Posts #9 and#10 express my feelings very well. Has valley fanatic returned in another form? No, even VF didn't cruelly attack players by name. What a low life.

hahaha this kid is killing me. You are clueless about college baseball! Coaches don't just throw people out there if they are "terrible"

Being respectful is one thing that places SycamorePride above many other college sports boards. I do not think that non-constructive personal attacks and name-calling have any place on this or any other board. We have to remember that college athletes are kids...most giving it their all for the sport while at the same time working to get good grades despite missing classes every week in-season. Thanks to the 95% of the posters who observe this philosophy. I'm looking forward to a great season!

For one thing, the game is won before you ever get on the field. Some people work harder then others, it shows on the field. All you have to do is read the articles and see the results. Maybe if you spent more time doing research on the teams you would think the same thing. The kid is noway comparable to Lucas. Not even close. Not trashing the kid, just stating the facts.
For your information I'm old enough to be your father. I have a father that played pro ball and have been around baseball all my life. So I do know what I'm talking about.
I am Alumni from ISU I keep up on it all. If you cant take the heat stay out.
Seems like I hit a nerve, but facts are produce by results and numbers dont lie.
Its not anger toward the coach or the player.
Its all expectations, I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.
You can tell your just a kid yourself.
Produce and nothing would be said. Thats what happens when you play with the big dogs. Cant take the heat then you need to get out. Thats it!

I agree grades are important when you are a athlete because you need something to fall back on if your get injured, if intend to play pro or just get a degree.
Maybe I was alittle out of line. I want to see Sycamore baseball take off.
As far as me using the name of the player, its in the papers and announced on the field anyway, so whats the difference. You think alumnis can't be brutal. They like to see results thats it. Thats everyday life. You have to be just as tough inside and as you are out. When you get a job are you going to tell your boss not to talk to your coworker a certain way, dont think so. He'll tell you to walk out the door. Something to think about.
Goodluck to Sycamore Baseball!

The problem is that you are not the coach. You are some guy whose father played pro ball so that makes you an expert. How many games have you attended this year? Better yet, how many practices have you attended? It is awfully easy to throw stones from the bleachers. But, unless you are actually there - in the grind (which you are not) - I would be positive and support all of the players.

Here again noone is throwing stones just stating facts. You can tell your just a young pup who cant even carry on a conversation. That is what is wrong with this world everyone wants pitty and cries about people stating facts. This is a forum to communicate.
Here again I never said anything that I thought I knew more than the coach, but making statements that a kid is injured and he wants him to play through the pain and there wasnt anytime for surgery. That statement should never been said for people to read. I never said, the players didnt work hard. All I stated that this kid may not be made out for D1 baseball. Lucas is a talented player and I dont know anything about the other catcher. But results is what it is based on. Numbers dont lie! I dont throw stones from the bleachers. I observe and take in what I see. I am positive and supportive to this team in more ways then one.
Let me ask you something, Have you contributed to this team financially?
Enough said, I dont think so!
One day maybe youll understand but you still have a ways to go. Thats not a bad thing, its just maturity. Its a world out there that doesnt want to work, they just want everything handed to them. Like I said, The Game Is Won Before You Even Step Foot On The Field. Think about that.
I wish Sycamore Baseball the best of luck, Hopefully they will be sucessful as the Basketball team is. I Hope Lucas and Ferguson Safe and Healthy recoveries.
One more thing, Think about how Lucas and Ferguson must feel, they live for baseball, hopefully they can heal and live their dream out.

Here again not bad mouthing, just stating the facts numbers dont lie. Show me the numbers and Ill rest my case.
You are just another young pup that has no idea what YOU are talking about. Never said anything about their coaching style just what Ive seen from this player, not very strong. Thats it.
I listen with my ears and eyes, not my butt. I look at numbers and results.
I dont play the feel sorry game.
I support ISU Baseball, but words should be chosen more wisely. Everyone reads the newspaper and articles throughout the Valley and surrounding areas. So everyone who follows ISU baseball, seen the comment that was made and probably thought the same thing.
I'm sorry that you cant understand from a grownups prospective, someday you'll realize what I'm talking about.
