The JSW Level
according to the terre haute tribune-star:

"Rex apparel has been selling briskly downtown at the Clabber Girl bakeshop, marketing coordinator Amy Huntsinger reported, although hats, very much in demand, are still on the way. And if ticket sales are any indication, plenty of people will be ready to wear those hats.

“We’re doing awesome on ticket sales,” Huntsinger said. “We sold out the scout section seats [in late February] and more than half the reserved seats have been sold [for the season].”

Those seats mentioned are all within the 878 permanent ones at the refurbished Bob Warn Field, and Huntsinger said approximately 1,000 seats in temporary bleachers at the far end of each dugout will be added to bring the capacity to nearly 2,000.

“We thought this was going to go over well,” added Huntsinger, who stressed that there will be a “Meet Your Seat Night” on May 14 for current and potential season-ticket holders, “but even at that, everyone has been pleasantly surprised.” "

why can't we do this type of thing with indiana state sports? just wondering......

What are they doing to promote the team? Do they have billboards up? Are they doing radio spots? Stuff in the paper or online?

I wish the Rex well and hope they become a continued success. I hope they prove TH can support a team, but right now it sounds typical of most new things in Terre Haute. Will the excitement and sales still be there a year from now?

It's too bad many in TH who didn't graduate from ISU, or hold a negative attitude toward the university because they think they're supposed to, don't support ISU's baseball team, which is playing at a higher level of competition and is successful.

They have had multiple spots/stories in the paper.
The coaches have been on the local sports radio scene.
I have NOT seen many TV spots however.

They have a LOT of nice merchandise available (except baseball HATS!)... and will have it available AT THE STADIUM... I hope that they sell kids Jersey's at the stadium... (something that ISU Basketball HAS TO DO.)

As far as a "meet your seat night"... yes, the ISU men's basketball team does that promotion at the Blue/White game. Not sure about football...

Number one, The Rex is new and with that exciting. Their product will have to deliver to keep that excitement going. That includes quality of play, family atmosphere, fun games and promotions.

Number two, ISU can do a lot better. This year was an improvement with players talking to media and Coach Heller having a radio program. But, there could be a lot more marketing to the ISU community, as well as the community at large. Their could be additional fun added to the atmosphere at the games.

The fact is that the level of play at ISU games (The Sycamores and their competitors) is a step above what Rex fans will see this summer. So, it is not just about the on-field offerings. It is about the overall presentation of a community baseball team. Frankly, a lot of the fans who will come to The Rex games will not know a lot about baseball. What's going on on the field is for many secondary to the entire mix of the product.

Agreed on all counts.

That is very true. With many minor league games a big event on the field (homerun, double play) is about the only thing that really draws the interest of the majority of the crowd. Many are their to drink, eat and socialize.
