Now that's PROGRESS, considering that we're "JUST lil' ol' ISU."

When we BLAST Xavier back to Cincy on Tues...then SWEEP the 3 game series @ Springfield, we'll likely crack the top 20 after winning the MVC Championship - and still be "JUST ISU."

That's cool...

That's Great!! Anyone know why the media guide doesn't list the past team final rankings?
the have Conf and NCAA finishes but not the polls -- just a thought

Cordell could barely contain himself

Okay, Cordell kept calling me today at work while I was in a meeting and when I finally talked to him at 3:00pm he was losing his mind. It sounds like the entire team is so elated by the new ranking.

Congrats to the whole TREES team, especially the juniors and seniors who have been paying their dues to turn the team around with Coach Meggs at the helm. The seniors must be pinching themselves.

Today I shipped our family video camera overnight to Cordell so he can start documenting this incredible journey from the teams perspective. :sycamores:

this is great to hear, but at the same time the team needs to remain focused and do what they have done the past 15-20 games, and that's play good defense, have good pitching, and keep hitting the ball where they ain't. They can't let the ranking get to their heads and think they're unbeatable now. It would be nice to see a big win over Xavier tomorrow night, followed by a game 1 win in Springfield Friday night, that would then put ALL the pressure on MSU to win 2 straight against the best offense in the MVC.

:sycamores:

Right you are ISUCC. I believe that Meggs will help them keep things in perspective...take the games one at a time, have a high degree of confidence and stay loose! They remind me of the Fresno State team that won it all last year...except that Fresno overcame a lot more adversity...such as one player playing with a broken thumb...and losing two of their starting pitchers before the series started. We can be that same kind of team. We have to want to win bad enough and keep things in perspective.

This reminds me of the heady days of the mid to late 80's when we were among the nation's elite teams! It was lots of fun then, and I'm finding it to be quite fun now! This is a great honor for the team and the school.

No reason that we can't just keep winning, is there? It will be nice to hear that "Just Indiana State" is back in the NCAA tournament!!! Once you get there, anything can happen!!!

Congrats boys!!!

In addition to the #26 ranking in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Poll...ISU got votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Poll...but not enough to rank officially and ISU moved up to #60 in the RPI ranking this week...and #57 in the ISR rankings (out of 302 D1 teams!).

Here's link to website with lots of polls for baseball at all levels:

great point

Cordell was also saying that the more wins the team has the tougher Coach Meggs has gotten. It sounds like he is working very hard to keep the boys focused and remind them to take one game at a time, with no egos! I also learned that the team will be going straight from Missouri to Wichita without coming back to Terre Haute. Probably best to keep the boys focused on the prize.

This is so exciting!!:D

Thanks for cueing us from WITHIN, SkinnyLu...we "outsiders" also get excited thru the hearts of the boyz in the Trees that are plotting a Robin Hood-type MVC/NCAA journey.

Howz Cordell like that COUCH? I think that 90% of all who attend college can relate...:)

Why the discrepancy?

Great to see STATE in the ABCA rankings; and climbing in the RPI but what's the discprepancy between the ABCA polls and the ESPN Baseball Coaches Poll? STATE isn't ranked and didn't receive any votes. Are the polls that disparate or just that dorked?

This is really awesome news, but I agree about not letting it get to their or our heads. I remember when the men's basketball team started 9-0 during David Moss' final season a few years ago. We got some votes for the top 25 and could have cracked it with a couple of more wins. Next thing you know we lose to IPFW, Moss goes down with an injury and we lose like 13 in a row or something.

just a quick comment on the isu record book.....

hey there guys...been away from the computer for a few days...been having computer problems....but in response to an earlier comment about the isu baseball record section not having mention of polls and rankings.....

before i took over as the baseball sid in the early 1980s...there was no real baseball record section kept....i, with help with a lot of people such as local historian mike mccormick, pieced together the record section as it currently stands today....with successive sports information staffs adding to the information over the years.....

we had poll stuff in there initially...but it was cut out due to lack of space in the press guide...because of economics, we were forced to keep our press guides to a limited amount of pages....so some things had to go.....

i had based the baseball records section on what i had seen in a couple of guides that i really respected from the university of texas, texas a&m and mississippi state.....

just a note...lol.....

TJames

Thanks for the MG blurb; didn't know why that data wasn't but we know now the rest of the story.

Econ reason is easily understandable; was surprised when the NCAA stepped in recently and limited the size of schools media guides; but w/ some schools producing tomes vice 'dime store' novels...

Piecing together State's athletic history is challenging; I'm anxious to see the work the State Archivist is completing on the football, basketball and baseball teams.

Anyone know where the ICC Conference records/history are maintained?

the ncaa stepped in to slim down press guides.....

from all sports when the guides quit being "press" or "media" guides and became largely recruiting guides for the respective sports....plus the fact that media complained about it.....they wanted a guide that they can easily throw in their work bags.....let me tell you...carrying 100 press guides.....that are bigger....is a pain in the tush....lol.......

so now they are limited.....to strictly being media guides.....smaller in overall size and in the number of pages.....

Would love to see STATE add enough pages to the MBB guide to recognize the NAIA sucess and the 1968 team; got to believe they could do that w/out adding more than 10 pages.

Had heard that some schools went overboard w/ the media guides as recruiting tools

Was/Is the SID world enjoyable?
