It's sad that our athletes have to do things like this. I wonder if other MVC schools have to stoop to this level. I made the varsity club donation this year to keep my season tickets. If I had more money, I would give more. It's kind of embarrassing, really.

It's the life of the mid-major program and yes, other schools are stuck doing them, too. This is the sort of thing I point to every time someone wants to talk about paying players.

I hate these type of fundraisers in general ... I do not know all of the details on this one so I can not comment on this specific fund raiser .... I spoke to Buffalo Wild Wings about one for the Ryves Community Optimist Club to help us set up activities for the many poor kids in the Ryves neighborhood ... in the BWW offer they would not allow any of our signage inside ... we could not pass out the coupons for the 15% to be donated off the price inside of BWW ... specials did not count towards the donations ... we had to recruit and bring in all customers for that evening ... only those who showed the coupons would have the 15% donated to us ... as I remember it did not include alcoholic drinks either ... our club thought it was silly to market so heavily for Buffalo Wild Wings and have our supporters spend so so much for us to possibly get so little money to help the kids ... hopefully the deal the women's team got was much better ... we did not see a real community commitment with the deal we had been offered by Buffalo Wild Wings ... was totally turned off by them with the rules they had set up ...maybe Bob Evans is much more supportive. Also. thank GOD for people like Bob Baesler who let us collect funds by sitting quietly at a table displaying our signage ...not bothering any customers ... we did not sell anything and he makes no money out of this ... and our club has collected $1,000 plus to do things for the kids in that area each of the last 3 years ... Christmas of 2012 it allowed us to purchase $1,100 worth of socks and underwear to stockpile at Franklin school so they could be given out to the kids who came to school in the winter wearing no socks or not having any underwear on ...we had learned about this need from the Principal of Franklin ... it helped us get needed money to help acquire a quality sound system for the Ryves Youth Center ( and thank GOD for Tony Ashe of MTS Digital whose wife I met at Baesler's ... he donated 12 Bose speakers, labor and more to help with the sound system) Bob Baesler did not ask us to bring in customers ...Bob Baesler asked for no publicity ... and he has allowed us to raise money to help the kids in several ways the last 3 years. I just felt the need to share what Mr. Baesler has done ....
There are several other in the community who have helped and I do not want to offend by only listing a few but I wanted to mention one more person who never toots his horn and that is Sam from the Valley Grill ... he donated several hundred dollars of food for one of our fund raisers and then bought all of the soda we did not sell ... and never asked for any publicity in any way ... he just saw a need and helped .... there are many such good people in our community and I feel fortunate to live in the Greater Terre Haute area
