What has happened to the women's team? This is really disappointing given their great start to the season.

Just throwin' this out there, but could a really weak non-conference schedule have anything to do with it? Maybe it's not preparing the team to play with the better teams in the MVC???

I don't know much about women's basketball, but it seems they play a bunch of nobodies in the non-conference...

Thats what I think Indytree....I mean other than the Kansas State SMU and Butler games... the non-con has been a joke...

Well it doesn't help that Drake is shooting lights out - shooting just under 70% from the field isn't normal... besides that, these two last games by the women are some of the worst I've ever seen.

87-73 is your final, 2 blowout losses to start MVC play is not a good recipe, and a good Illinois State team comes to ISU next Friday.

Lots of work to do between now and then.

The one thing I dont like about wiedie is that he always screams so when something goes badly he continues to scream...I just hope he unleashes hell and makes sure these girls understand the importance of this next game...

It not that unusual for a team to shoot that well when they are making layup after layup! You know wiedie wants to bitch about needing offense maybe the problem is that he has ran the same offense the whole time hes been here, maybe he needs to change up a bit as all the conference knows how to defend it. Another question is where it the great press defense that we had back in mel's days here. This is gonna a really long conference season, as it looks like 0-3 to start and all at home. The lone bright spot i saw today was how well wheatley played besides the turnovers. Anyway Go STATE!!!

Take out the first 9 minutes and the game was pretty even. But the first 9 minutes ISU played about as bad as any team I have seen at Hulman Center. ISU has shot that bad several times this season but usually defense and rebounds keep them in the game. This time they were giving up layup after layup after layup. I think at one point at the start of the game Drake had made more layups than ISU had points. I think during that run Drake was given so much confidence they were making almost every shot they took. When they missed they got a number of offensive rebounds and then would make the second attempt. After the first 9 minutes ISU played much better but when you dig your self a 20 point hole it is almost impossible to come back. Whitely did draw a lot of fouls today but I would like to see her start kicking it out to an open shooter on occasion. Defenses are collapsing on her when she drives because she always shots and if she is not fouled more than likely she does not make the shot. There was a number of times when the defense collapsed that there was an open shooter on the wing. Maybe Weidie should start Buher instead of Mattox. Mattox did much better after sitting on the bench for a little while and Buher once said that it takes her a little while to warm up. So if Buher starts she should be warmed up from the warm up minutes and Mattox could come in as a spark off the bench.

or maybe he should give krista smith more playing time, i thought she played good the time she was in there today.

smith did play okay when she was in there but she isn't ready to play too many minutes at the college level. i was glad she got in and made her first shot, seemed like she gave us a little spark when non of othe starters could get it going. moriah hodge shouldn't play that much - she's too weak, sets screens lazily, jogs up and down the court, turns the ball over, just doesn't seem like she cares. i also agree with a previous post not to start deja. i think the girls will be ready to play their next game - after these last two, i dont think it can get much worse. just need to get some offense going and play some d. get the right combination on the floor.
