Is starting a basketball program in 2011-12, should have minimal effect on our Sycamores.

They are starting all sports (eventually) they also started basketball, next year is first season. They don't even have a gym, they don't have a baseball stadium, etc. They will, certainly in the future. But they won't end up being a major competitor like IPFW or IUPUI...it Kokomo?!?!?

I bet someone said the same thing about the following (when they started their MBB programs)...

ipfw = 1973-1974
iupui = 1972-1973
isu-e = 1970-1971

ISU-E? Not much of a competitor at all is it...?

what i am saying is that with IPFW and IUPUI approx. the same distance from Kokomo either way and with each having residence halls, I don't see it growing into a powerhouse. And with the lack of jobs, lack of development, lack of much of anything in Kokomo in recent years...it will be a very long road for IU-K, especially in sports. But then if IU keeps getting all their legislative support anything is possible.

I think there is a big difference here. IU has a ton of satellite campuses all over the state that have basketball teams. I'd imagine this will just be another regional NAIA program.

In MBB? Or in all other University-areas?

My point (for Boda as well)...

Both ipfw and iupui STARTED as naia programs; today, NCAA Div I.

I'm not saying that iu-kokomo WILL do it; have to believe some of the other iu-regionals will move to NCAA before iu-k.

I just wonder if anyone in State's athletic (or admin) offices ever though ipfw or iupui would BECOME the places they've become.

I received a copy of Dick Landini's memoirs from my sister; some interesting things in it. He spends some time on ISU-E going independent; how only 1 trustee saw it unfolding, how EVERYONE thought that trustee was a curmudgeon who had an axe to grind. Landini ends up giving the guy a 'mea culpa'

So, who knows WHAT the future holds.

I guess my point would be they're way behind the other IU regional teams playing in NAIA. They've got:

IU East Red Wolves
IU Northwest Red Hawks
IU South Bend Titans
IU Southeast Grenadiers

At least I'm pretty sure all of them are in the NAIA. Now add in IU Kokomo Cougars. The only reasion I think IUPUI and IPFW are Division I schools is because they're a joint effort between both IU and Purdue, so costs are splintered and they're in much larger markets. Just can't see that out of Kokomo or any of their other regional schools.

I'd say iu-nw would be the first to go; bigger metro area than ipfw
iu-southeast would be 2nd
iu-southbend next
lastly iu-east

absolutely criminal the amount of $$$ the State of Indiana has dumped into the iu regional HSs

IU-K and PU have a parternship now. So I think they are laying the ground work...but it is going to be a LONG time before athletics come up. They haven't even established transfer agreements, etc. Academics have to go first...I mean, academics would not be able to stand it if athletics did something to better a school...lol

It's not just at kokomo.

You can pursue a purdue degree at EVERY iu-Regional High School; EVERY ONE!

http://www.tech.purdue.edu/statewide/index.cfm

I'll bet anyone a dozen square doughnuts that in the next 20 years; every iu-Regional High School will named iupu-"City/Region"

iu-k = iupu-k
iu-nw = iupu-nw
iu-se = iupu-se
iu-e = iupu-e
iu-sb = iupu-sb
