Does anyone else have an issue with this? It was bad enough when the NCAA allowed the players involved to play in the bowl game but now they find out that Tressel knew this was going on and didn't report it to the school or NCAA? Oaklahoma State's star reciver Dez Bryant was suspended for the rest of the season a few years ago for lying to the NCAA and now one of the elite coaches only gets a 2 game suspension? Isn't the coach suppose to be the role model and set an example for these players?

I think that is OSU's self-imposed punishment only correct? I expect the NCAA to bring down the hammer after a full investigation.

Your correct on its tOSU's punishment but I doubt we see much more from the NCAA. They have showen a lack of "bringing down the hammer" lately with alowing these kids to play in the bowl game and the whole Cam Newton incident just to mention a few.

They usually don't let people who lie to them off the hook though. We'll see.

Not that I feel at all sorry for USC. I enjoyed what happened to them, but you'd think they'd at least be crying foul. The sad thing is, you know Tressel has probably lied about and known about things involving his players that are far worse than this.

Not totally clear on this situation--did anyone:
a. lie to the NCAA
b. fail to report a violation
c. both

Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel received an e-mail last April telling him that two of his players were caught up in a federal drug-trafficking case and the sale of memorabilia, breaking NCAA rules.

Tressel responded: "I will get on it ASAP."But he never mentioned it to Ohio State's compliance department or his athletic director for more than nine months.

On Tuesday, Tressel was suspended for the first two games of the 2011 season and fined $250,000 for violating NCAA rules by failing to notify the school about the players' involvement. He also will receive a public reprimand and must make a public apology.
