Another indiana legend ISU overlooked

if Butcher had the skills for West Tenn State Teacher's college, he had the skills for the Trees
Hit a paywall and couldn't read. Found a couple different articles that could have some of the same info. Reading about Loogootee going to Springs Valley in Bird's senior year made it kinda hard to breathe. Sure would've been nice to have been affiliated with another legendary coach.

Essentially, Butcher had an offer from western Kentucky but didn't want to go to bowling green, wanted to play for the trees but Longfellow offered zilch and ol.Gene Lambert offered Butcher a scholie to Memphis..
He had to "skip" two years of college b/c he was drafted by the US Army but returned to Memphis and led them to their 2nd ncaa bid (1956) - memphis lost in the opener to Okla City butcher had 10 pts. As a SR, in 1957, he was on the NIT finalist that lost to Bradley by a point. Celtics drafted him in the 10th round
