Jake Kelly confirms he's leaving Iowa — on Facebook

When Jake Kelly wanted to announce he was leaving the Iowa men’s basketball team, he did it on Facebook.
Kelly, the Hawkeyes leading scorer last season, used the social networking site to confirm what his father had said Thursday: He’s leaving Iowa.
"It really means a lot to me that all of the Iowa fans are being understanding,” Kelly wrote on his Facebook page. “I won't forget how passionate the fans are here and I will always be proud to have worn the Iowa uniform."
Responses on his Facebook page included posts wishing him well at Indiana State, where his father said he hoped to play next.
Kelly, an honorable mention all-Big Ten guard, wanted to return to his home state, closer to his home of Carmel, Ind.
The reason, Kelly’s father indicated, was the loss of his mother, Julia, who was killed in an airplane accident last year.
Iowa coach Todd Lickliter is scheduled to meet the media this afternoon in Iowa City. He is expected to address the losses of Kelly and Jermain Davis, who confirmed this week he also has left the program
