I don't mind if they do, but I don't expect that to change the results much. All season fans have been asking for the backup QB, first Tonyan and now Lancaster. I just don't see a big difference coming without better blocking from the Oline.

id like Perish back, he put up numbers. i think we were complaining about some things that were out of his control and we lacked perspective of what may have been causing the problem

I was a voice calling loudly for Tonyan to replace Perish. It's always a good idea to ignore me when it comes to football because I am only a fan, I really don't know much about the nuances of the game!!! However, it is apparent that the majority of Perish's issues are more related to lack of quality on the O-line than to anything that Mike does or doesn't do. So, I would agree with Bent and Niklz, the problems our QB's have are probably largely out of their hands.

That said, if I were the coach (and it's a good thing I'm not...), I would be working my network of coaching contacts looking for an upgrade at QB for next year. I think a big, BIG part of the reason we got good so quickly was that we were fortunate enough to get Ronnie Fouch. His skill level kept defenses honest and opened things up for Shakir and the running game. Without Fouch, I think the run has been much more difficult to pull off. We need to go QB shopping.

Although, a great O-line can make an average QB look great. Redskins, Doug Williams, great O-line...

I think we are a passing team at this point (with a healthy Perish). I think his(our) only real dump was the USD game that we still had a chance to win IMO when he went out. USD is #5 in total defense and #2 in pass defense. I remember thinking in the YSU game that he couldnt hit the fades so we were screwed but I just think that they were well covered for the most part and the Pick 6 was a play where he was running for his life and made a terrible decision.

There were very few people calling for a backup.

I said, and have been saying since last year, we just need better decision making out of Mike. That is what is keeping him from being an All-MVC QB. If you have a shoddy OL, your internal clock has to tell you when it's time to throw the ball away and not take a drive killing sack. Likewise, if your receivers are blanketed, it is better to throw it away or at a spot that only they can get to and live another down.

Tonyan was so far off target in the NDSU game that I don't know if he was simply making sure nobody caught it or he was that far off target unintended. His performance made me think this guy doesn't have game. Several posters had stated that he was more athletic and mobile than Perish, but I saw several times where he was hesitant to take off and was subsequently tackled short of what had been possible...maybe that was just inexperience.

At this point in the season, we need to try anything to get a win. I'd like to see Lancaster get a shot, but I wouldn't expect much more than what we've seen out of Tonyan. Lancaster is inexperienced as well, and he doesn't have the ability to really get out and run. He's probably a better passer but with that O-Line you have to be able to get out and run to save your life.
