My good friend HoopMaster promted me to post these videos of the 2009 NCAA Cross Country National Championship meet at LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana. This was the 8th time that Indiana State has hosted the National Championship meet and they will host it for the 9th time next in 2010.

VERSES covered the races LIVE, this is pretty neat coverage so please take some time to watch the video of the mens race! I will post the womens race at a later date for those interested!

Video 1:
NOTE: The athletes in this opening scene are Indiana State Cross Country athletes: Kayla Alexander, Julia Costello, Michael Disher and Adriane Wunderlich

Thanks for posting, I've never seen the race or the course before and always wondered how the National Championships looked for cross country....very cool that Terre Haute gets to host it so often.

The coverage that Versus offers looks great.

Thanks for the support!

Yeah this is the 3rd year that it has been broadcast on national television. The previous 2 years it was covered by CBS affiliate, CSTV - most of the coaches and teams love what this course and the city provides them.

One coach said following the meet:

"If they move the meet I will be pissed, it doesn't get any better than this place. No other course in the country is better suited to handle the amount of runners and the large crowds that the National meet draws". Now that's not 100% verbatim, but pretty darn close. He was talking to me and a few of my former teammates after the meet was over.

Louisville and a few other schools have placed bids to host the meet in 2011 and it's widely been widely speculated that the NCAA will decide to move it around for a few years and then come back to Terre Haute. Mainly because they feel the need to spread the wealth, well you have to think if a "bigger" city like Louisville or Indianapolis (centrally located cities) had the course and the meet management that Indiana State has that they wouldn't be so worried about "spreading the wealth". But that's just my theory on it.

If you have never seen this thing in person, you ought to take the time and see it. Especially if you are a fan of "history" or Indiana State as a whole - it will really give you something to be proud of. And with any luck the Sycamores will be running in the National meet next year - missed it by 2 spots this season.

Thanks Proud - If you really don't want to take time to watch the entire 4 videos, I recommend that anyone that is a fan of Indiana State atleast watch the first 2 videos at that point I presume that you will be sold to watch the next 2... lol
