Great article. I always wondered what could have been if it had been built the way it was initially designed - including the 15,000 seats they planned for. But the Masons wouldn't sell, and I think the 10,000 was the right size. I had never heard of Mary Hulman's wish of an opera theater. That would have been something.

All in all, it has always been a great facility for ISU and Terre Haute. I have a lot of great memories in that building.

Agree - 10,000 was the right size and I think the current size is just as appropriate.

Not sure there would ever be a need for an opera theater... with Tilson Auditorium footsteps away from Hulman, what role would Mary H's dream theater have filled?

If you can lay your hands on a 70-71 ISU basketball media guide, the cover picture is the proposed
Community Civic Ctr. that never was. I also have a fundraising poster for the proposed facility. For those in TH, get in touch
if you want to see this stuff....it is just sitting in my closet/storage area.
