The Renn Level
I attended this afternoon's practice until the lightning sent the players to the locker room. Fans should take note at the season opener of the facilities maintenance that is ongoing. The biggest thing to notice is the repair of quite a bit of cracked concrete including stairs and grandstand walls. I was pleasantly surprised.

i don't know what kind of financial shape the school is in but i could see some programs having real problems in the long term the next time tough times show up. I guess if what we got will get us through that maybe we can come out good on the other end

If they could just do something to allow some to climb the steps. It's obvious that is needed. Just get there early sometime and watch how unsteady some are.

The lack of handrails has always been a problem at the stadium. All the stands at high schools have had them added if they weren't already there as a safety precaution or maybe it was mandated by ADA. How has ISU kept the old stairs with no handrails?

I really can't believe NO-ONE has been hurt, all of these years....

And I'm surprised our Insurance Underwriter doesn't say, Get Some Handrails in there, or we are NOT insuring you.

How do you install handrails and not impede access to the bleacher seating?

So, if what you're saying is, get rid of the bleacher seats, and install chair back seats, then were all set. I like that idea! LOL! Maybe it's the degree of Memorial Stadium seating that makes feel like you're ready-to-rumble walking those steps?

Is it a situation that if they make any changes they have to make ALL the changes?

I believe this is correct, do not know if the work being done will cause the university to make it ADA compliant or not, I hope it does for I have problems with the steps myself. Tried taking the elevator a few times but it is over run with media and healthy people that sit at the top and too lazy to climb the steps.

Guilty as charged. Sorry
Technically speaking, the handicapped area of the stadium is near the 30 yard line at the S.E. end of the field at the bottom of the stands. My ankle feels much better than the last couple years so I will take the stairs as much as possible.
