With a solid performance that included going up against the #24 team in the nation, Michael Lyons, a 6-5 senior from Air Force, is the StatSheet NCAA Player of the Week. StatSheet's NCAA Freshman of the Week is Kansas's Ben McLemore and Marquette's Jamil Wilson is StatSheet's NCAA 6th Man of the Week.
Lyons was tops in the NCAA in scoring (36.0 pts per game). He also put up a strong 4 three pointers per game in a win against UNLV and a loss to Colorado State.
Lyons led all scoring for the Falcons with 27 points and added 4 assists in a 71-56 win against UNLV. He then led the team in scoring with 45 points on 68% shooting in an 89-86 loss to Colorado State.
This is the first StatSheet NCAA Player of the Week honor for Michael Lyons. The runner-up this week is Tennessee State senior Robert Covington. Honorable mention goes to Otto Porter, a sophomore from Georgetown.
StatSheet NCAA Freshman of the Week: Kansas's Ben McLemore
Ben McLemore played an average of 33 minutes starting both games for the Jayhawks. He led all freshmen in both scoring (21.5 pts per game) and three pointers (4.0 per game). In a mammoth 83-62 win against Kansas State, McLemore took the lead in scoring with 30 points while churning out 3 steals. Against Texas, in a 73-47 shellacking, he had 13 points and 3 assists.
This is the first StatSheet NCAA Freshman of the Week award for McLemore. The runner-up is Xavier Johnson from Colorado. Marcus Smart from Oklahoma State takes honorable mention.
StatSheet NCAA 6th Man of the Week: Marquette's Jamil Wilson
Junior Jamil Wilson averaged 31 minutes over two games for the Golden Eagles. In a 63-55 loss to Georgetown, Wilson led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 13 points shooting 75%. Then in a 79-69 upset of Pittsburgh, he contributed 13 points and 8 rebounds.
This is the first time this season Wilson has won the StatSheet NCAA 6th Man of the Week award. Cody Ellis, a senior forward from Saint Louis, is runner-up. Nick Niemczyk, a senior guard from Southeast Missouri State, wins honorable mention.
