Indiana St baseball starts day tied for 1st in the nation for wins at 41 with Florida St, Purdue, Baylor, & Kentucky...

Manaea will be on a pitch count of 50-60 and then the bullpen will take over for the rest of the game. Pazik expected to be the first reliever. Tyler Browning will also likely see action for the first time in a few weeks. Manaea will pitch the first game of the MVC Tournament. Bacus, with 130 pitches last night, will go in game two next week. Also looking at the NCAA Regionals, this plan would put us in good position to start Dakota Bacus in the first game.

In the first inning, Manaea gives a single to Medrano, but strikes out two and a fly-out to center. He threw 17 pitches in the inning...so he has about 40 or so left in his appearance today.

ISU went quietly in bottom of first.

In the top of the second, first two batters got on base with an error by Wampler and a single. Lead runner thrown out on sac bunt attempt by Lucas. Manaea gets his third strikeout of the game. Final batter flies out to right. No score through 1.5.

In bottom of second, Ort leads off with grounder to short...the throw was wild and Ort reaches second with no outs. Hedges strikes out swinging. Hileman triples to deep center. Ort scores! Walterhouse lines out to center. Hileman slides under the tag on a perfect throw. 2-0 going to the third. Both runs unearned.

In top of the third...Manaea at 34 pitches...Manaea gives up a walk and a balk to put a runner on second. No outs. Infield single by Medrano puts runners at first and third with no outs. Infield grounder turned into double play. Run scores. Bases empty with two outs. Final out a grounder to second. After 2.5, score 2-1. That may have been the last inning for Manaea as they wanted to hold him to 50-60 pitches so he could start the first game of the MVC Tourney on Tuesday. He finished inning at 54 pitches.

Bottom of third...Wampler get a infield single up the middle. Curry sac bunted Wampler to second. Burnam strikes out for second time. Lucas hits a soft grounder to third for an infield hit. Runners at the corners. Ort hits a perfect bunt down third baseline and plates Wampler. Three infield singles. Hedges singles up the middle and Lucas scores. Hileman flies out to right. 4-1 after three.

Top of fourth...Manaea starts the inning and Maddox hits the first pitch over the left-center field wall. 4-2. Mattea hits a home run over the left field fence. Very uncharacteristic of Manaea. Those were the fifth and sixth homers he has given up this season. 4-3. Next batter hit by pitch and after a few seconds, the umpire decided Chaffin leaned into the pitch. Called back to the plate. He strikes out. One out. Next batter walks. Nobody warming in pen...even though he has exceeded the pre-determined maximum pitch count! Next batter sac bunts. Runner at second with two outs. Next batter flies out to right-center. 4-3 infavor of Sycamores after 3.5.

Bottom of fourth...Walterhouse pops out to second. Kraemer strikes out. Wampler gets hit on elbow...goes to first. Curry hits ball to pitcher and off the pitcher's glove for an infield single. First and second with two outs. Burnam walks. Bases loaded for Lucas! Lucas flies out to left. 4-3, ISU.

Top of fifth...Tyler Browning comes on for just his 14th time this season. It's been a few weeks since he has appeared. In pre-game, Heller says he has worked through his mechanical issues and was looking good in bullpen sessions. Two years ago, Browning had 10 saves and was looking for a great 2011, but ended up with arm surgery right after the season began. He never recovered to reach his 2010 quality. First batter grounds out to second. Second batter gets a single through the left side. Next batter drills a single up the middle. Runner going to third thrown out by Lucas Hileman! Two outs. Next batter flies out to center. Still 4-3, ISU.

Bottom of fifth...Ort gounds out to first, unassisted. Hedges flies out to left. Hileman strikes out swinging. ISU has six strikeouts at the dish. 4-3, ISU after five.

Top of sixth...Tyler Pazik now pitching. He may go a couple of innings here and could go the rest of the way if he has a good outing. First batter grounds out to third. Next batter singles to right on one hop. Next batter flies out to deep center. Next batter hits perfect drag bunt down first baseline for a single. Runners at first and second. Nine hits for MSU so far today. Next batter flies out to the warning track in right. 4-3, ISU.

Bottom of sixth...Walterhouse strikes out looking. Burnam strikes out swinging. Wampler strikes out swinging. 4-3, ISU.

Top of seventh...Pazik is back on the rubber. First batter, Kevin Medrano, hits a double off the glove of Hileman in left-center. Next batter sac flies Medrano to third. Machado is on to pitch with a runner on third and one out. Machado, who was a go-to guy last season has had some ups and downs, so he has seen less action...this is his 19th appearance. Next batter hits a triple to the center field wall to score Medrano. Now 4-4. Runner at third with one out. Next batter strikes out! Two outs. Next batter flies out to center. Now 4-4 at seventh inning stretch.

Bottom of seventh...new pitcher (MSU closer)...starter Schumacher gave up four runs (two earned) on six hits (four infield). He struck out nine Sycamores and gave up one walk. Curry strikes out looking. Burnam singled up the middle...seventh ISU hit. Lucas flies out to center. Two out. Burnam steals second...only his third of the year. Ort singles through the left side and plates Burnam. 5-4, ISU. Hedges is hit. Runners at first and second. Ort steals third and a high throw let him get in safely. Hileman flies out to deep right. 5-4, ISU.

I'm not impressed w/ Machado...poor control and MSU hit him hard.

Ort w/ key RBI...finding out that BIG THINGS also come in lil' packages! Nice to see him NOT swinging for the fence on occasion.

Hochstetler gives up a 2 run HR...damn, can't he ever keep the 'friggin ball DOWN...
Now a double by MSU - ISU relief P is FRAGILE at best...Hochstetler CHOKES for the 2nd game in a row!

Top of eighth...Reggie Hochstedler on to pitch. First batter singles to left. Drake follows up with a two-run homer! MSU leads 6-5. Third MSU homer of the night. Hochstedler has given up two home runs in last four batters starting at Purdue on Tuesday. Next batter grounds out to second. Next batter hits a double off the left-center wall. 14th hit of the game for MSU. Runner on second with one out. The dangerous Medrano is at the plate. Medrano is intentionally walked to put runners at first and second. New pitcher is Brandon Dorsett. Next batter is hit square in the back to load the bases. Next batter sac flies a run across the plate. 7-5, MSU. Hochstedler now charged with three runs. Runners at the corners. Next batter hit a soft liner to Pearson behind second base. 7-5, MSU.

Bottom of eighth...ISU needs two runs to tie, three to take the lead. Pearson (who entered the game as a defensive replacement) grounds out to short. Kraemer, hitless tonight (0-3), is hit by a pitch in the top of the back. That's the 100th hit-batsman for ISU this season. Fourth in the nation in that category. Wampler grounds to third and Kraemer is out at second. Two outs. Curry grounds out to short. 7-5, MSU.

If ISU does go on to lose this game I hope they can win tomorrow to go into next week with some momentum. Don't need to lose this series

Dorsett puts out the fire...now to get some runs!

Not sure 'bout Heller, but I can see which relief P's have their -hit together NOW and are dependable.
Some of these guys have NO CLUE when they're called out of the bullpen...

Top of ninth...Dorsett gets first batter to fly out to center. Next batter (hitting .103 on the season) and he walks! Next batter hits a single to center. Runners at first and second with one out. 15 hits for MSU...six for extra bases. Wild pitch sends runners to second and third. No double-play option. Next batter hits sharply to Pearson at second, he looks runner back to third and gets the runner at first. Two outs. Next batter grounds out to first, unassisted. MSU leads 7-5.

Bottom of ninth...Burnam, Lucas, Ort and Hedges coming to bat. Burnam grounds out to second. Lucas drills a single to left. Ort lines out to short and Lucas is doubled up at first.

MSU wins 7-5.

Dorsett's inconsistent throwing motion will never allow mastery of the "zone"...how did this happen, w/ his dad being an ex-MLB C?????

Oh well, game over...gotta get the last one to be on a roll into the MVC post-season.

Hochstedler takes the loss tonight (now 4-2). Burgess was the winner. ISU now 41-14 on the year.

Offensively, ISU had five runs on nine hits and one error. There was one walk, ten strikeouts and two hit batters.

Here's the wrap-up story from GoSycamores.com with box score, video highlights and video comments from Coach Heller:

http://www.gosycamores.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=15200&ATCLID=205429040

On the post-game show, Coach Smiley says Schumacher was very effective for MSU and he felt ISU's bats we "O.K." Pleased to have Tyler Browning back in the line-up. It wasn't Hochstedler's night as he left balls up in the zone. We don't feel like thay gave it to us. They were a good team.

Looking to win their 14th weekend series in a row tomorrow. Gametime is 1:00 (ET) Saturday.
