we are also team of the week, again

Team of the Week: Indiana State’s 76-57 win over No. 16 Creighton Thursday was significant for a Sycamores program that is just one game behind the Bluejays in the Missouri Valley Conference race now. All-American Doug McDermott was just 3-for-10 (eight points) in the game. Jake Odum led the Sycamores with 22 points.

Any idea where we can watch the College Basketball Live from last night? Do they put that on an archive?

I am looking for that cubbypike13, hopefully it's somewhere on the site, like I said, lots of good pub for ISU in that show last night, thanks Dan Dackich!

Couldn't have been a more complete performance by the whole team last night. Our resume speaks for itself when tournament time comes around, but we can't afford any more bad losses the rest of the way out. Our ticket is half way punched, we just need to put a little tighter grip on it and we are in!

I guess they don't know what night of the week the game was played on? Sure seemed like a Wednesday to me. My beer at the Bally wasn't Thursday-cheap!

Andy Katz giving us some love this morning

"3. Indiana State coach Greg Lansing was rightfully upset that the Sycamores drew Iona at home for BracketBusters on Feb. 23 instead of getting a team that is more of a lock to be on the bubble or in the NCAA field. But Lansing said he had to focus on winning the Missouri Valley Conference. So, all Indiana State did Wednesday was beat Creighton. Now, with victories over Creighton and at Wichita State and neutral-site wins over Ole Miss and Miami in Honolulu, the Sycamores have a better profile than the Shockers and most other bubble teams. Indiana State's split with the Bluejays and the possibility of a sweep of the Shockers also keeps Indiana State (a game behind Creighton) in the hunt to win the Valley title."

From CBS Sports, but I'm putting it here anyway:

That's a good win: Indiana State has now beaten Creighton (76-57) and ...

Ole Miss
Miami
Wichita State

The Sycamores are building the nation's most intriguing resume. Those are four really solid wins over four teams that should be in the NCAAs this season. The problem with 15-8 ISU is the losses to Morehead State, Southern Illinois and Drake. But I always give rewards over big victories than punishments for bad losses. I haven't done the math, but if it's close, I'm giving ISU the nod against another bubble team right now, because I think there are plenty of bubble teams that only have half as good Ws as ISU has.

As for Creighton, the Bluejays are now tracking toward a four seed at best, and that's if they run the table. Too bad, because the offense is fun and I wanted to see Creighton really be that mid-major with a high seed. Guess we'll have to settle for Miami in that role this season. Real problem for CU on Wednesday was Doug McDermott with a season-low eight points.

I cannot agree with him strongly enough. Good wins should always trump bad losses. Losses are going to happen, but there needs to be a reward for going out there and playing a tough schedule.

Especially when you're a "mid major" and don't have the benefit of the conference boosting your RPI for you.

Since when is Miami a mid-major?

We interviewed Joe Lunardi last night for the MVC Hoops Show that will air on Saturday. He broke down the chances for each Valley team and discussed what Indiana State needs to do to make the NCAA tournament. His interview is posted here: http://www.mvcfans.com

You know, I just realized something...
Besides the simple fact that we have beaten Creighton and Witchita (consensus number 1 and 2 teams in the MVC) - we beat them both by LARGE margins!

AT WSU - 13
Creighton - 19

and we held both teams to a high of 57 points (and would have been 55pts if Creighton hadn't hit a last second 3ptr.)

The 3 losses that we are all upset about??
we gave up:

Southern: 76
Ill State: 60
Drake: 74

more coverage about 20 teams vying for the last 10 spots in the NCAA with prominent mention of ISU. However they misspelled Larry Bird's name.

Larry Byrd’s Indiana State hopes to return to tourney
While Indiana State’s 15-8 record may not scare anyone, with the five big wins they already have they will have a much easier time of getting a tournament invite and reminding everyone of the classic Larry Byrd vs. Magic Johnson Indiana State vs. Michigan State NCAA title game in 1978. The biggest reason is Jake Odum, who draws more fouls than any other player in the country and is one of the top assists men. In the five upsets of top 10 Miami and ranked Mississippi on a neutral court, a revenge win against Northern Iowa, and then huge wins at a top 50 Wichita State team and top 25 Creighton team, Odum has dished out 28 assists and got to the line for 43 shots (more than 8 a game) and made 33 of them:

From CBS Sports' Jerry Palm:

Speaking of the Missouri Valley, on the way back up is Team Schizophrenia, Indiana State. The Sycamores pounded Creighton at home for its fourth win over a tournament quality team. They need wins like that to make up for their four bad losses. ISU played a good non-conference schedule, and if it can find some consistency, should get rewarded for its efforts.
