Today we'll work to complete the three-game sweep by keeping the Bears of MSU caged again. Today's win would also get us to 30 wins on the season!

The weather is iffy, with a chance for showers or thundershowers throughout the day, with winds at 10 mph from the NNW. Having said that, we have received less precipitation today than expected as about .22 inches have fallin since yesterday's game, through 10:00 this morning.

RHP Jason Van Skike (3-1, 4.09 ERA) will take on LHP Aaron Meade (1-3, 3.70 ERA). Meade, an All-American candidate was solid in his first seven starts, but lacked run support. Then, on April 2nd he suffered sudden pain in his throwing elbow and has been rehabbing the muscles surrounding the elbow for the past month, as an MRI was negative for structural damage. Needless to say, Meade will be on a pitch count...I would guess no more than 80 pitches.

So, we need to get to him at the beginning of the game and force him to throw more pitches. Van Skike will also need to be at the top of his game, keeping MSU cornered as they have been for the past two games.

Today's game is being broadcast on WBOW (1130 & 1300) and through Lve Stats. The link to both is below:

Sometimes you just get up against a pitching gem and the bats go silent. Before his injury he was one of the best in the league. Looks like he is on his way back.

Aaron Meade, in his first start since rehabbing from an elbow injury a month ago, went eight innings and gave up just three hits and two walks. His top speed on the gun was just 87 mph, but he had a nice mix of pitches. Grant Gordon, a freshman from Salem, Missouri came in and got into and out of trouble in the ninth. His fastball hit 91 and his change-up was a whopping 15 mph slower at 75!! Watch for him in the future.

So what happened to ISU? Dead offense and lots of freebies from the pitching. Van Skike gave up six walks and Mann gave up three. Despite getting just eight hits on the day, MSU left 11 on base. We can't win with that combination!

Creighton is gonna beat Evansville (15-5 now) and hopefully WSU can hang on and beat ILS and bring them back to the pack a bit.

SIU will beat SIU-E again too

WSU now up 5-1 on ILS in the 9th, ISU needs WSU to win I'd think.

Still a shot for ISU to finish 1st or 2nd in the MVC yet.

WSU wins

Standings & remaining MVC series

Illinois State 9-3 (at Missouri State, vs. Bradley, at Evansville)
WSU 10-5 (at Creighton, vs. Missouri State)
Indiana State 8-6 (at Evansville, at Bradley)

Looks like the Aces control the destiny of the #1 position...our series this weekend in Evansville will be BIG.
