Do current scholarship players pay income taxes on the value of their services? Just curious.

100% agree. There is no way the current model is sustainable with the amount of money being thrown around to unproven or players that haven't produced. It's a cash grab now and I'm sure 1,000s of donors are thinking to themselves "I just paid $xx,xxx-$xxx,xxx for that?" The market will cool, things are going to change. Multi-year deals, buy-outs, etc. are going to be what's coming down the pipeline nextThis is exactly why I think this model has a finite lifespan and will lead to college basketball breaking away from the NCAA and the employment thing will happen and everything will be done at the school. We just have to ride it out for a little while.
I couldn't ever justify giving towards NIL in the current state. I might be more inclined to give if guys were sticking around for 4 years like they used to and I was getting some cool memorabilia out of it (like signed jerseys, basketballs, posters, etc). Under the current model I just don't see any point to it. Why give away my money to guys that are probably just going to leave anyways? This year's team has been awesome, but the only player I really have any attachment to is Larry since he's been here for 4 years.100% agree. I used to think the same. However, if all Sycamore fans had an anti-NIL perspective, then we would never field a competitive team, nor would we retain or attract top coaching talent.I couldn't ever justify giving towards NIL in the current state.

I view contributing to CoC as a way to encourage current team members and the coaching staff. I no longer think of it as "pay for play." Yes, it's a mindset I've developed to help me contribute, and I'm okay with that.
I like that the head coach determines which players receive what amounts. If and when a player transfers, I highly doubt that the head coach would give NIL money to the player on his way out, rather, it would go to a current (or future) team member.
I've made two one-time contributions so far, and will continue. Hope other Sycamore fans who have the $ means strongly consider. It's presumptuous to think our larger donor base will take care of the head coach salary and all of the NIL needs. We need more small to medium NIL donors. I applaud Jason's efforts to increase support for Sycamore's NIL.
No disagreement, hope it doesn't ruin your fandom. Go Sycamores. The entire thing is most definitely pay to play and these so called student athletes are essentially free agents signing one year deals at this point.
we can wrap this up with your first question... no we aren't going to ask you.Sadly if you were to ask me the question "Which is more likely: You no longer following college athletics or donating towards NIL?", I'd have to choose the former at this point in time. The entire thing is most definitely pay to play and these so called student athletes are essentially free agents signing one year deals at this point.

“I just pray that any high schooler that is looking at colleges that they pick a school that they feel the same way that I have felt about Indiana,” Holmes said, through tears. “I know the transfer portal is huge right now, but I'm here for five years because I loved being a Hoosier, and I loved every second.”
Probably the last of a dying breed....much respect for her.
Every time I see a kid transfer from an IVY I think "that's one dumb smart kid."Kids are fucking transferring from Ivy League schools.
Wish our guys would say this.View attachment 2782
