I mentioned this before but I think 6 of the 8 MVC teams this year will be fighting for Regional bids.

Sorry about the double post...read the Trib-Star and thought it was "new" stuff!" :freaked:
I thought the 4th place projection sounded familiar...

This isn't a double post. There was another thread that I mentioned that the Valley is going to be really good baseball this year. Were a little over two weeks away from the first pitch.

We've got some big holes to fill, w/ C, 2B, 3B, LF & RF up for grabs.

C- Looks like JC transfer Ryan Toliver has this position locked up:

Ryan Toliver, a 6'0”, 205 lb., right-handed catcher from Independence, Mo., currently plays for Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kan. The Panthers are currently ranked number one in the NJCAA, as they are 49-9 on the season, with district championships approaching. Toliver is batting a team second-best .503 average that has earned him the fourth spot nationally, as he has racked up 13 home runs, 99 RBIs, 42 walks, and boasts an on base percentage of .591. Behind the plate, Toliver has thrown out 11, as only 7-of-18 have been successful stealing against him. When Toliver is not catching, he holds down the first base position for the Panthers. Toliver will also add to the academic success of the team as he brings in a 3.9 GPA.

1B - Jeff Zahn is back AGAIN and represents our best defensive option as a LHer. Giesler didn't do too bad in his 1st full season, offers good power but must cut down on his SO's and become an RBI generator. Curious if Giesler has the glove for 3B?

2B - Loss of DeJesus is tough, as he was a GREAT glove and diverse, plugging for Friis when injury @ SS. Clay Dungan will likely return to his original IG position @ 2B after last season in LF. Nolan Brimbury could fill the 2B role if Hannahs elects to keep Dungan in LF. A RS Frosh, Brimbury has a nice glove and good bat control, thus the ability to play "small ball" while moving runners. This has been a BIG PROBLEM for ISU the past 2 seasons - too many LOB'S!

SS - Friis has this locked up.

3B - Andy Young's loss to MLB leaves a big hole here. 6'4" Dane Tofteland has the range, glove & bat...but is young. Again, curious if Dane Giesler can play this position (which he played @ Jasper HS...recall 3B SCOTT ROLEN?).

LF - Chris Ayers had this position until a late-season ankle injury. I look for him to be there again, as he gets a great jump and has great speed once in motion w/ those long strides - covers a lot of ground! Ayer's bat was also looking good until the injury. Good power to all areas. C. J. Huntley should see plenty of OF p/t this season. Good arm & bat.

CF - Rosselli has this locked up. Came on strong as the season progressed, improving his speed, long ball ability & lowering his SO's/making contact. With a good season, he'll be drawing MLB scouts.

RF - CJ Huntley or Tofetland would be my picks to fill the shoes of the best POWER HITTER ISU's had in years, Hunter Owen (now in MLB after his Jr season @ ISU).

Any idea what happened to Weston Rivers, 6'4" 240lb LHP? Looks like he had arm surgery in early December & will miss THIS season. Looks like maybe too many innings on the pitching arm:
