I went to the Drake vs Cal game tonight. Real good game, Cal won by 3 unfortunately.

Drake's center Seth VanDeet...I don't know if he just happened to have a good game or what, but he played real well and could be a handful for our bigs. His free throw shooting was unimpressive but he only had one foul the whole game (at the very end of the game) and he was battling inside the whole game.

Ben Simons had an off game overall 1-7 from three point range.

Drake led by 9 late in the second half, kinda blew it with free throws - 57% from the line.

Sounds like Drake isn't gonna be an MVC pushover this season...gutsy effort away from Iowa.

I watched the L-ville/UNI game from Nassaua, Bahamas @ the "Battle4Atlantis" Tournament. Isn't that where we played pre-season? A converted ball room that seats 4k, it has TERRIBLE TV courtside lighting...can't see much of anything beyond the players benches.

Helluva game! Had UNI not got a raw deal while down by a deuce 48-46 on a rebound/bear hug-type foul (the refs called a "held ball - LV possession") @ in the final secs., they would've kicked sand in Pitino's face.

Post-game, Pitino stated that "the MVC was a GREAT league, probably the most underated in America" while citing IL St, Creighton & Wichita State. I guess ISU didn't leave much of an impression on him down in LV last year;(

Game observations:

Around 11:00 PM, I almost shut the TV off. UNI had gone 10 1/2 minutes without scoring in the 2nd half! Down 26-20 at the intermission, Pitino echoed to the TV that the game "wasn't our pace," and the Cards came out w/ a smothering "scramble D," forcing the tempo & causing numerous POOR decisions by UNI's Anthony James (over penetration -numerous missed layups) Jame's was simply FORCING action when no real opportunity existed. Pitino's trapping "D" was the difference, forcing the PACE of UNI. Offensively, I was not impressed by LV.

@ 4:46 in the game, UNI had cut the score to 42-36, as LV players were getting caught in switches on "D" & UNI was capitalizing w/ 3's. Sonnen & James are a good outside shooting backcourt. Sonnen remnds me of a "tatooed" Jordan Printy...tough kid. Guess the "toos" influence the psych difference, eh?

Announcers commented that "this was like an NCAA game" @ 3:42 left & neither team w/ any remaining TO's.
In a nutshell, UNI's turnovers/poor 2nd half PG leadership & LV's 21-5 offensive rebounding adv. spelled the difference.

UNI still has a chance to beat two BCS teams this weekend, starting with Stanford this afternoon, Drake plays Rice later tonight and had better win that one.

Creighton Vs. Wisconsin @ 10:00 tonight on ESPN2.

It almost goes without saying that any MVC team (or mid conference) win over over a higher rated RPI Conference goes a along way in determining post season awards and seeding.

Go MVC conference teams, beat the biggies!!!

As a footnote, or a example of that, Butlers recent wins over Marquette and North Carolina will go a long way for 2013 NCAA tournament team selection.

after a 30-30 tie at the half, UNI went cold and lost to Stanford 66-50, ugh, not a good start for the MVC today

ILS just beat UAB by 12 at South Padre Island, 2 more games tonight, CU and DU play late

Very good game in Vegas with Creighton and Wisconsin, worth tuning in on espn2 if you're done shopping.

Creighton beats Wisconsin
Illinois State beats UAB (Creighton beat UAB earlier this season)
Drake beats Rice
Stanford beats Northern Iowa

Not impressed w/ UNI's interior game and their guards were easily rattled by L-ville's pressure on Thurs. night.

BIG win for Creighton over Wisconsin last night, CU looked REAL good, we are gonna have to play exceptional basketball to have any shot of defeating them this year, heck, ANY MVC team is gonna need their best game to beat CU this year, they could very well run the table.

Drake also with a nice win over Rice.

Today the MVC can get some more key wins.

UNI vs. #19 Memphis (both have lost their 2 games in this tourney).

#14 Creighton vs. Arizona State (both teams undefeated).

Missouri State vs. South Carolina

Illinois State vs. Northwestern

Southern Illinois at St. Louis

Bradley hosts Tenn.-Martin of the OVC.

BIG day for the MVC, let's go 6-0!

To tap some of the OFC memory cells, didn't ISU win the Las Vegas Invitational in the early 70's under Gordon Stauffer????

Thanks for the update on today's MVC games ISUCC!

I checked my listings and didn't see any of these games on TV today, does anyone have any information otherwise?

Bradley won also today, not sure what to make of the 3 UNI losses, they did play good competition but they should have won 1 or 2 of those games. And they have some pretty difficult OOC games remaining. So we'll see how these 3 losses affect them.

The big 3 this year are gonna be ILS, WSU, and CU for sure. After that it's up for grabs, hopefully we can finish higher than 5th

creighton plays on espnu at 11pm et. my phone says illinois st plays at 8pm et on ccs...i'm guessing that may be on comcast.

MSU and South Carolina heading to OT, SC tied it with a last second 3, SIU down 10 to St. Louis in 2nd, ILS up on Northwestern in 2nd

well shoot, MSU had their game won, then lost in OT, that last second 3 by SC to tie was killer. That would have been a great win for MSU and the MVC.
