The Sycamore Level
Announcement to be made in January. Gibson XC Course may host D-1 championship (ISU) and the D-3 championship (Rose-Hulman). It currently appears Univ. of Oregon's attempt to host the 2011 D-1 championship will not happen and will default to ISU. Let's hope so. The 2013 championship is scheduled to return to Terre Haute. The 2011 default to ISU plus the D-3 championship would certainly help in the movement to make Terre Haute the permanet NCAA XC championship course.

That's GREAT!

Another benefit of the ncaa leaving KC for Indy...

If the Haute CAN"T lockup the permanent home of the X-Cty Championships,
then hosting every other year and being the PERMANENT default location is a great consolation!

This is not the case. The NCAA has not contacted ISU about hosting next year. When the NCAA was here for this years championships they gave no time line to when there will be an announcement made about 2011.

What's your source on that OngHop? Thanks for the information, but is it correct? You got a link?

Also I would contest that your "idea" of making Terre Haute the permanent site of the NCAA XC Championships will probably NEVER happen. A good idea, but I assure you if Indiana State hasn't done enough at this point to prove to the NCAA that Terre Haute is the best fit for the NCAA Championship they are never going to do it. It really doesn't matter if they prove they can host a D3 and D1 NCAA Championship in the same year - that's does nothing for us. This year they hosted the NIKE XC Regional (highschool) and the very next weekend was the NCAA National meet. The staff, city, course have proved over and over that they can handle any amount of meets in the same year.

Coaches, fans and athletes across the country recognize this as the best cross country course in the nation - it's a well known fact among the nations XC Circles. However that is not going to be enough for the NCAA to make this the permanent site, they are not interested in that type of format. Probably the same folks that support the BCS system... :krazy:

This is the ideal situation and seems most likely - the NCAA and ISU have had discussions about it. The best things about hosting it in Terre Haute are:

Consistency
Hotel Accommodations
Restaurants
Central Location

Access
- I-70, Terre Haute Airport (yes teams fly into TH), Indianapolis Airport, Highway 46.
Volunteers
XC Course

It's Cross Country town USA for goodness sakes... It's a no brainer!

I love that the Haute has been the host and will host in the future.
Though EVERY location will have the necessary hotels, restaurants and volunteers...

I agree on the central (national location); I-70 and the distance to Indy Int'l Airport.

Unless Ind SR-46 has DRAMATICALLY IMPROVED, I wouldn't consider it an ASSET!

No sense in dragging the BCS into a X-Cty discussion.

The NCAA tolerates the BCS because they KNOW the BCS schools/conferences will walk if the NCAA 'tampers' with the BCS.

Not entirely true - maybe I should say number of hotels within a 20 mile radius of the event location. Not every host city can offer what Terre Haute can offer in terms of lodging.

it sounds like this may actually happen, at least that's what I got wind of today.

Yeah I was wrong on that, it is actually going to happen - sorry for the trouble OngHop... lol You were on the money - but this thing is pretty hush hush at this point.

Caught wind of that today as I am out in Portland, Oregon as I type. Oregon will not get the bid as had been previously thought.

Sounds to me like the IU coach cannot stand this event being at little 'ol ISU. Too far below him...

Sounds that way doesn't it? His little afterthought pat on the back didn't sound nearly as sincere as his statement about wanting change. His comment on the weather reveals much--early November can be from very cold to Indian Summer in Terre Haute. ISU is a natural place if you are concerned about unpredictable weather.

Thanks for posting this 4Q! What great news yet again - Cross Country Town USA! They don't keep coming back to Terre Haute for no reason... This is the best place in the country to run cross country and people are finally starting to realize this in and around T.H.

excellent news once again, gives me a great reason to take the entire week off from work again in 2011!

Wish more people would do that CC and come out and see what a great event this is that we host... What a compliment to the University and the city of Terre Haute to have us host this event for 8 strait years.
