obviously the person writing the blog....

knows nothing about Coach McKenna and the reasons that he left for Oregon....it wasnt the state of the program...unless you count a high pay increase at a Pac 10 school as a state of the program issue....
 
Don't get the humor....

Relatively ignorant on the topic of ISU vs. IU opinions from the Sycamore side of things. Why is the picture funny? I personally love you guys! It helps that little sis runs/jumps track and field for you guys, but even before then I've always been a fan. What are your feelings on IU?

There is a lot of hate on here for IU. Most not justified. In my case, in Indy, I'm tired of seeing them on the front page and us getting one line on the last page. They've had their share of success so they don't need any more.

I, personally, root for them in the NCAA since they are representing our state.

My wife roots for them and my daughter got 5 yrs of free education on an athletic scholarship. So they have done ok for me.

So its an East Coast/Yankees thing? IU gets the press and its annoying so you choose to hate them? That's how I feel about the Yankees, Lakers, etc. so I wouldn't say its an irrational hate. If I wasn't a Hoosier blogger and student I'd hate it too.
 
I think it runs a little deeper for most. It is simply a matter of the little guys hating the big guys in most cases. IU gets the best of everything while ISU gets little if anything...press, appropriations, support, etc. I have nothing against IU as a school, but athletics is a different story. IU has historically not given ISU the time of day...but then back in the early 2000s IU set up some games...ISU kicked IU's rear and beat them for the first time in the history of the Hoosier Classic and then IU after lossing 3 or 4 games decided...no more, we aren't playing ISU anymore...its too risky and thus even more ISU fans started to dislike IU.

It's funny that the article has a Sycamore picture when the article is about how the Hoosiers are going to miss the tournament. If you open the paper or turn on sports radio, you're still likely to hear IU talk when the focus should be on the decent Indiana teams -- Purdue, Butler, Indiana State, etc.

Someone mentioned hate towards IU. It pisses a lot of true Sycamore fans off that ISU students/alumni are IU fans and haven't a clue about the Sycamores or the quality basketball being played at their alma mater.

As to iu "hatred"...

It's not irrational.

It's more contempt than hatred.

And (for me) it's for the entire institution.

MORE gloomington alumni should be OUTRAGED at the reputation of their chosen alma mater across the nation. BUT as most iu alumni remain in indiana, they're simply not aware of it.

I don't hate IU, just Kentucky and Butler! I like seeing ISU beat the crap out of the Hoosiers, but on the most part I think it's a fine university. My mother taught there in the summers for many year.

CORRECTION.

INDIANA STATE UNIVERSITY IS THE REIGNING CHAMPIONS OF THE 'INDIANA CLASSIC'.

BUTLER IS THE REIGNING CHAMPIONS OF THE 'HOOSIER CLASSIC'

WE'VE BEEN CHAMPIONS OF IU's INDIANA CLASSIC TOURNAMENT SINCE 1999. BUTLER'S BEEN THE REIGNING CHAMPIONS SINCE 2001.

I just wonder how many decades IU will go, before they man up and want rematches to try and take their Championships back?
