Anyone else hear about this or am I the last to see it ?

Effective Jan. 1, 2011, the NCAA will implement a new composite barrelled bat to be used in all its divisions of competition instead of the traditional aluminum bat.

Some comments:

................. "they were saying The performance is significantly different.”

.............. "said the bats have a weight distribution and performance similar to a wooden bat."

“It makes you think as you move forward,” he said. “Do you recruit speed, or do you recruit power? I’ve heard it’s a big-time difference in bats.”

Yikes.. going to lead to a lot of cheating I believe..
Anyone that has ever played softball using a composite bat knows what I'm talking about. There are ways to get the bats to be a lot "livelier" (shaving, repainting, rolling, etc.)

They should just go to wood... unless of course, they are referring to a wood composite bat... THAT might be OK.

It is just a less lively aluminun type of bat...to help avoid the pitcher getting creamed! BUT, noone is really sure that it will really help There are changes in high school also.

I haven't read the articles... but I assume that it talks about the "trampoline" effect of double walled aluminum bats.... That effect is even WORSE on carbon fiber composite bats... especially if the user is willing to take "advantages" and start "rolling, shaving, etc" the bat...

Go watch a competitive Slow Pitch softball game and you will see what I'm talking about... They have had pitchers KILLED in Indy with composite bats.
