The Varsity Level
As programs get better they attract better players....great programs have great depth and talent. We seem to be pretty deep at the receiver and running back position (and probably a few other positions). How do you think coach will handle good football players who are frustrated with playing time and are you concerned about it?

i don't think that it will be a big problem because most of our young talent will be redshirting. so it's not like they are waisting their time/year on the bench. i can see where sophomores and juniors will be frustrated. but you know what is a huge remedy for not playing frustration? winning. if we go out and win games everyone will be happy, and be happy to be on the team. if we go out and lose or play subpar that is when tempers begin to fly. if we win, we are golden.

When you were in the situation that the Sycamores found themselves in....

when Trent took over, you recruit as many guys as you can to help stem the tide. As you improve and your program/record gets better, you begin to recruit a higher quality of player/athlete. When that happens, guys who were brought in early on in the process may find themselves battling for practice time and playing time in games. That's just a nature of the business. You'd like to keep as many of your early recruits as you can since they were the ones who initially believed in your system and what you are doing. They were part of the building blocks of the new program. But sometimes that doesn't happen. They often get frustrated and decide to hang it up or transfer out.

We also lose a lot of seniors and juniors to graduation in the next couple of years as Miles first two classes were quite large. There will be plenty of playing time for the young guys we have now when they come of age. You can already see how the coaches are evening out future classes with redshirts and what not.

I"m not really talkin about the young guys that will come of age...I'm talking about guys who are competing for starting spots right now...the next couple weeks will prove to be interesting...X's and o's is the easy part, keeping good kids motivated and keeping them inspired when they feel they should be on the field is tough-

This is a great question and will likely be an issue in the future if the program continues to progress. I'd imagine we're another season or two away before it becomes a real issue. That said, if a kid doesn't want to fight and earn his burn, then you let him go seek PT elsewhere. As long as coaches are honest with the players and they're honest with themselves, you can really keep this to a minimum.
