David Hughes brought up an interesting point in his "Gifts from Santa" column in the Trib-Star - in his words, "...a jaw-dropping, multi-year contract so that he’ll stick around to guide the Sycamores to Missouri Valley Football Conference championships through the end of this decade."

A fitting wish, but has anyone heard anything on this front? Is there any effort being made to sweeten Coach Miles' (paltry) contract to reward him for what he's accomplished? I personally don't think he's going anywhere, but I'd sure like to make sure we're doing all we can to make his job at ISU as close to a destination job as we can get!

Just wondering if there's any news out there on this front...:wordyo:

I posted on this topic earlier in a different thread, but there didn't seem to be a real concern. When Coach Miles was hired, he was given a series of 4 one year contracts - NOT a 4 year contract. As we know, June 30 will mark the end of year 3 and Trent will only have one contracted year remaining.

Obviously want to see him re-signed and to the best deal the university can afford. Not sure what else to say since I haven't heard anything.

dont contracts usually have a buyout anyway, where the team he would leave for would pay $X if they sign him. I doubt an ISU contract would have such a high buyout that any worthwhile D1 school would give paying it a second thought.

It would appear that a series of 1 year contracts would negate the need for a buyout clause, unless he left in the middle of the contract period. But then, I'm no authority.

Sycamore proud hit what I was typing right on the money...long-term contracts are built defend the coach...one year contracts are basically made so the university doesn't need to pay the coach if he is fired...

I can't concur anymore than that....We really need to wrap this guy up if we want to keep him...a successful year next season pretty much puts a bow on him to another school if we don't have a deal done..
