I noticed in Todd Golden's story about the football alums meeting with RP and DB over the weekend, that Todd mentioned, "...the new football practice facility that is nearing approval..."

Anyone know exactly what this means, or where it will be? Sounds like it's pretty far down the road to construction. This is the first I'd heard of it.

Any news on this out there?

wasn't it mentioned in the Master Plan...thought it was going to in the old MAB paint building (or whatever it is) over by the river that the Foundation bought about a year or so ago. It is a huge, large old factory that would be "adequate" for now. I could be wrong, but that was what I assumed he was talking about.

I personally thought this was a done deal., as the Sycamore had approached the County Council a couple months back about converting an area directly north of Memorial Stadium into a Natural Grass Practice Field.

Miles said the funding had already been secured. Was he blowing smoke up someone's a**??

You could be right about that, but I didn't get the feeling from the term "practice facility" that they were referring to a grass practice field. "Practice facility" makes me think of something more like what the Colts have on 56th St here in Indy.

Hmmm, doesn't sound like there's been a lot of info out there on this...

I agree Facility makes one think big.

If my memory serves correct... This is a Practice "Field" located on the old golf course grounds around the Stadium.

Said to be used to alleviate scheduling issues between Vigo County Youth Football, ISU Football & ISU Soccer.

I took the story to mean the new sod field at Memorial Stadium..however there is a practice field shown in the ISU Master Plan west of third street near the new stadium site.

We're talking TWO different things here. As part of the "Wabash" campus, they have or will purchase the Old MAB building West of 3rd Street. Somehow the practice field north of the exisiting Memorial Stadium is getting mixed up in that conversation. I was under the impression that field, not building, was a done deal or near to it. The MAB deal is pertinent only if the Football Facility gets built near the river. Correct me if I am wrong but I think we are little confused here.

I'm sure it's just the practice field. I doubt Todd would reference something that hasn't been reported before without providing more details.

Has to be --- unless there was a T Boone Pickens-like donation to the March On! campaign for a new football stadium and practice facility...

They're just referring to a practice field by the stadium, not a practice facility or building. Still a big step in the right direction to eliminate some of the practice schedule conflicts between football and soccer.

Yes...they are close to beginning work on the practice field...

at memorial stadium...so everybody please chill out....lol.....

I don't think anyone needs to chill out. I didn't think anyone was getting heated up....:D

Seriously, though, why did Todd use the term "nearing approval" for this alleged practice facility? The approval for the grass practice field was granted some time ago, wasn't it?

Here's the quote from Todd's story: "The money would be used to help fund the football practice facility that is near approval..." Now, as I understood it, the new grass field was not only approved some time ago, it was also fully funded. OK, now I'm getting thoroughly confused.

I still maintain that "practice facility" sure conjures up grander thoughts than simply a grass field. If that was Todd's meaning, he sure overplayed that description. But, as I'm seemingly the only one who caught this little nugget, perhaps I'm just a little bit off my rocker. That wouldn't surprise me...

They are indeed talking about Memorial Stadium here... You know they had some donations and the construction company was going to donate some of the work...

You know the thing is, I called "crock of shit" on this thing a long time ago and everyone shot me down and that's fine and all but why does this not surprise me. I posted the video, Trent Miles (and I like the guy) got in front of the television cameras and tried to hard sell this thing. Tom you can say what you want, you can suggest to me that WTHI decided to look into this thing a little further and what not, but that's just not the case with this thing.

Someone at Indiana State (not going to speculate who) called up WTHI and said hey we are looking to build a practice field and we are about to take this thing to the city council and we would like to get a little coverage before we do so. It was clearly something Indiana State set up.

oh come on morgan...who called the tv stations?....

and set up the whole thing????......lee harvey oswald???.......i sense a conspriacy here....lol......if you know how these things work, the stations stumbled onto the story while covering a city council meeting.....i've talked to the tv people involved...and that's what they told me......that's what happened.....so you can believe me and them......or simply choose not to......

people getting their dander up over a simple grass practice field......oh, and when todd spoke of approval for the practice field, let's go over this again...yes, the practice field itself was okayed by everybody involved....but there was some additional institutional red tape that had to be cleared up.....once that was done...and from what i hear, it has been....then the construction crews can get out out there and begin working on the field....

So to clarify....we are talking about the sod practice field that is to be built just outside Memorial Stadium. The one that is to be used by not only ISU but local youth football programs, etc. Correct???

If that is what we are talking about, the entire point to this thread has been answered. Thanks for the clarification!

Practice we are talking about practice? Practice? Practice ? really Practice ?
if its "Just a Practice field" I dont understand what the big deal is here i mean come on what do they want to do build stands and a pressbox etc.

You act like PR people don't set up interviews with the news media? Are you kidding me Tom James? You should know better, it happens every day. Every story that they come up with their at WTHI isn't some story that they thought would be a good idea.

To suggest that they "stumbled" upon this story is hilarious coming from someone who has spent so much time covering stories for so many years... It was a public relations move by Indiana State, they didn't want to just build the thing with out informing the public about what they were going to do. They are trying to create a better relationship with the community and want them to be involved and on board... You don't think that whole, this field will be open to youth football nonsense wasn't part of the reason they set this whole thing up?

Frankly I don't care who you talked to or what they told you.... lol

its amazing to me....how some people want to nitpick everything to death....lol....

everybody says that they're all in favor of the football program improving....improving facilities....but just as soon as something starts to get done...there are always people who want to nitpick.....why are they doing that...why do they need that.....if they do that, what about this.....lol.....why dont we just let dr. benjamin, ron prettyman and trent miles do their jobs.....like trying to get the indiana state football program back into a good situation.....let's quit fighting them and actually work with them for a change.....now there's a novel concept....lol....actually working to make something better.....instead of trying to stand in the way....and be an impedement.....

as my good friend tates locke used to say...lead, follow or get out of the way.....lol.....

just a thought....lol...

morgan...all i've got to say is...prove it....lol...

i'll get the tv people who i talked to....and you get your inside sources...and we'll meet at the 50-yard line of memorial stadium.....and then we can compare notes....lol......and, in fact, i'll call all the media types in town to be there.....so you can present your case...lol......

why dont we just let dr. benjamin, ron prettyman and trent miles do their jobs.....

I rest my case... I don't know what you heard or who you get your information from but last time I checked we had a new president by the name of Dr. Daniel Bradley - you might have heard of him???

At the very least get the president of the University's name correctly if you are going to present an argument in support of the guy.

We don't need to meet at the 50 yrd line, you know exactly how these things work... Let the record show that I am indeed nitpicking.
