I saw them play defending 1962 IHSAA State Champ E-ville Bosse in the afternoon game of the E-ville Semi-state. 1st-time ever @ Roberts Stadium. Bosse had EVERYONE back and was expected to repeat as State Champ. Ireland Spuds...colors green & white (w/cloverleaf)...short lil' white boyz all under 5'10". Really never a game...TH Garfield (w/ NBA coach FRANK HAMBLEN) upset the 'Dawgs in the nightcap. TH Trib Star photographer BOB POYNTER was a starting G on that "Miracle" Purple Eagle squad, that had a sub-.500 record entering Sectional play.

Isn't Ireland, Indiana halfway between Mexico, Indiana and Poland, Indiana?

Also famous in Indiana Basketball lore as the Mexico Jalapenos and the Poland Kielbasas.

Ya, there's a few of those oddball towns in the Hoosier State...Ireland is now part of the Jasper Schools. It's only 5 mi NW of Jasper on Hwy 56.
